So Nice
Billy May Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You'd be so nice to come home to
You'd be so nice by the fire
While the breeze on high sang a lullaby
You'd be all that I could desire

Under stars chilled by the winter
Under an August moon burning above
You'd be so nice, you'd be paradise
To come home to and love

You'd be so nice to come home to

You'd be awful nice by the fire
While the breeze up on high sang a lullaby
You'd be all that I could desire

Under stars chilled by the winter
Under an August moon burnin' up there above

You'd be so nice, just like paradise
To come home to and love

Overall Meaning

The song You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To, as sung by Anita O'Day, is a love song about the power of the object of one's affections to make everything right in the world. The first verse contains a vivid image of the subject of the song standing by the fire while the wind sings a lullaby, creating an idyllic scene for someone to return to. The second verse expands on this theme, expressing the desire to be with the person under the stars, no matter the season.

The song's imagery of home and comfort is powerful and evocative, expressing the deep longing one feels for a sense of belonging with another person. The repeated refrain of "You'd be so nice to come home to" emphasizes this desire for home and comfort, framing the object of the singer's emotions as the key to a sense of security and wellbeing. Ultimately, the song is a celebration of the transformative power of love and companionship.

So nice is the English title, to go with Norman Gimel's English language lyrics:
Someone to hold me tight
That would be very nice
Someone to love me right
That would be very nice
Someone to understand
Each little dream in me
Someone to take my hand
And be a team with me

Hello Anderson, Thank you for the reply and the additional information about the recording and the composers. Walter's playing always impressed me as it was so fluid with continuous rhythm that seemed to so fit into the melody i8n a very natural way.

Time-Life records did a series in the 60's-70's called As You Remember Them. They were re-creations of instrumental hits - Billy May did a number of these for them - they were note for note recreations of the originals - that's why this recording is so close to Wanderley's version...

You are right. I have all records of Walter Wanderley, Billy May has just some samples of Organ Music, I agree tha Billy May has a good work in music, a kind of orchestration very beautiful, but this arrangement belong to Walter. I don't know how anyone can't listen the true, the composers are from Brazil, Marcos Valle, the lyrics are in portuguese language, Walter recorded in Brazil years before going to USA, THE RHYTHM IS PURE BRAZIL.
