Around The World
Bing Crosby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Around the world I've searched for you
I traveled on when hope was gone
To keep a rendezvous
I knew somewhere, sometime, somehow
You'd look at me and I would see
That smile you're smiling now

It might have been in County Down
Or in New York, in Gay Paree
Or even London Town
No more will I go all around the world
For I have found my world in you

It might have been in County Down
Or in New York, in Gay Paree
Or even London Town

No more will I go all around the world
For I have found my world in you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bing Crosby's song, "Around The World," are essentially about a man's quest to find his true love. He expresses his yearning for her and his determination to locate her, even if it takes him traveling to different parts of the world. The song highlights the feelings of hopelessness and despair one can sometimes feel in the pursuit of love, but its concluding lines reveal that the quest has ultimately been successful because the woman he was searching for was with him all along.

In the opening verse, the singer sings about his search for his love, describing how he journeyed around the world when he felt hopeless in his pursuit. Despite the ups and downs of the search, he remained determined to keep his rendezvous, knowing that they would eventually meet. The second verse features him guessing the locations in which he could have found her, places like Country Down, New York, and London Town. However, all of these ideas are hypothetical, as she was found in his heart all along. In the concluding verse, he announces that he doesn't need to travel the world anymore because he has found his world in the love of his life.

Though the melody itself is so beautiful, it becomes more amazing with the lyrics. And the voice of Bing Crosby is too marvelous. Thank you for posting this clip.

Thanks Tammy. Your grandmother's music box is a gift to be treasured for all time. I'm pleased that my song helped you to put words to this wonderful tune on your grandmother's music box.

Thank You Joe Dayton. I inherited my great grandmother's music box and it took me years to find out what song was playing on it. Actually, today is the day I found out for sure what the song is. When I listened to it, I cried. I knew my great grandfather had given it to her. He must have loved her very much. Also, I want to thank sauquoit1356. The information you provided was an added bonus.

I first heard this on a 45 rpm (with the big holle) that my father had bought when I was 7 years old. Now at the ripe old age of 73, I still remember it.

Ah yes -who can forget the vinyl record with the large hole in the middle? All the rage in the 60's.
