At Your Command
Bing Crosby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The thrill of a new love has faded away
Mistaken, wakened am I
Wanting you near me, sincerely I say
Forgive, forget, won't you try

I had you, I held you, you gave me your all
Your love dreams I shattered beyond recall
Now that I've lost you, please understand
I'm here forever at your command

I realize, now that I've lost my prize
Tell me how can I live this way?
Foolish conceit, at my heart, it would beat
And to think that my heart would obey

I want you, and I need you, more than you know
I worship your love, dear, wherever you go
Once more to have you, love would be grand
To live forever at your command

I realize, now that I've lost my prize
Tell me how can I live this way?
Foolish conceit, at my heart, it would beat
And to think that my heart would obey

I want you, and I need you, more than you know
Whatever, don't ever tell me to go

Once more to have you, love would be grand
To live forever at your command

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bing Crosby's song At Your Command speak of a lost love and the regret that the singer feels. The thrill of a new love has faded, and he recognizes his mistake in breaking it off with his love. He longs for the love of his life to forgive him and forget the past, so that they can be together again. The singer admits that his foolish conceit was the reason for the break-up and now he's willing to live forever at her command.

The singer's desire to have the love of his life back is apparent throughout the song. He admits that he needs her more than she knows and that he'll worship her love wherever she goes. Although he's hurt his love so badly that she will not forgive him easily, he still holds onto the hope of being with her again. Bing Crosby's resonant voice is complemented by the gentle instrumentals of the song, which helps emphasize the emotions in the lyrics.

Overall, At Your Command is a melancholic song that speaks of lost love and the message to treasure what you have before you lose it. The song highlights the importance of forgiveness and letting go of the past to create a better future.

@Eustace It was indeed Recorded in 1931 on a 78 RPM Master around the same time "Just One More Chance" was Recorded, Only a handful of test pressings were made! I heard it when I was around 16 years old, on a Radio station in Kansas, Wish I could remember the station, But this was so long ago, I do not believe anyone would remember, As My Mom and Dad were just passing through when it was played! I can still hear it in My head!
