Black Ball Ferry Line
Bing Crosby Lyrics

On the Black Ball Ferry Line up in Seattle
Every single GOP and Democratical
Hear the whistle blow and the bell go clang
As the ferry boat goes chuggin right along

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bing Crosby's song "Black Ball Ferry Line" portrays a vivid image of a ferry ride in Seattle. The line represents a bridge between the two opposing political parties -- the Republicans and the Democrats -- to a common point of embarkment. As the ferry departs, the lyrics depict the sound of the chugging engine and the bells ringing, creating a sense of anticipation and excitement about the journey ahead.

However, the lyrics also seem to suggest that the ferry ride represents more than just a pleasant ride: it represents the idea of unity and harmony between the two parties. Despite their differences, the two parties understand the importance of cooperation and recognize the value of traveling together towards a common goal.

Overall, the song is a reminder that, like a ferry ride, the journey towards progress is only possible when different individuals and factions come together and work towards a shared purpose.

Just rode the Blackball Ferry line to Victoria BC and they still play this song twice each ride in 2019! It's amazing to hear Bing coming out of the ferry speakers! Wonder how many thousands of times this song has been played on that fairy line?

I worked on the Coho from 2009-2016. They began playing the song in either 2013 or 2014.

@TheBeardedPatriot based on your comment that would be ~55k times played (~3473 days since 2013 * 4 trips per day * 2 embarkations per trip * 2 times per trip). This assumes a lot about the boat's schedule and at what time someone reads this post :)
