Breezin' Along With The Breeze
Bing Crosby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I have been a rover since I was a child,
No one to love or care for me.
Knocked around all over, kinda grew up wild
My home's wherever I may be.
Ain't no someone yearnin', wonderin' where I be,
I'm gone, but no one's missin' me,
Ain't no light a-burnin' ev'ry night for me,
I'm like a bird that's flyin' free.

I'm just breezin' along with the breeze,
Trailin' the rails, roamin' the seas.

Like the birdies that sing in the trees,
Pleasin' to live, livin' to please.

The sky is the only roof I have over my head,
And when I'm weary, Mother Nature makes my bed.

I'm just goin' along as I please,
Breezin' along with the breeze.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bing Crosby's song "Breezin' Along With The Breeze" speak of a wandering spirit that has been a rover since childhood. The singer has never had anyone to love or care for them, which has resulted in growing up wild and knocking around aimlessly. But rather than feeling trapped or burdened by these circumstances, the singer revels in their freedom to roam wherever the wind may take them. They have found solace in being on the move, and there is no one left behind who is missing them. The singer compares themselves to a bird flying free without any destination in mind.

As the singer continues to travel with no particular course in mind, they describe their carefree existence by comparing themselves to "birdies that sing in the trees." They take pleasure in living in the moment and living to please themselves rather than anyone else. They highlight that the sky is the only roof over their head, and when they get tired, Mother Nature provides a place for them to rest their head. The singer's attitude towards their untethered lifestyle is one marked by contentment and fulfilment, despite the lack of a permanent home.

In summary, "Breezin' Along With The Breeze" is a song that celebrates the freedom of being a wanderer, with no set destination in mind. The singer relishes their independence and holds a positive view of their itinerant lifestyle, highlighting that they have no one missing them and no light burning in their absence. They revel in their nomadic way of life, living to please themselves and being content with the sky as their shelter.

Mr. Aldini

He has the perfect voice and delivery for this song.

Roger Munyon

Gotta add some praise for Buddy Cole and the trio for the relaxing, bright backgrounds for the Crosby radio shows. They get out of the way and let Bing swing, adding a clever "punctuation" or two along the way. Between Cole, Bregman, Billy May and Pete Moore, Bing was in pretty good hands in his post-Decca days.

I'd like to find this song on Lp! I care about your idea?

Barry I. Grauman

This was one of hundreds of songs Bing recorded for his nightly 15 minute CBS radio show (1954-'56). There was a 7 CD set {160 tracks} released by Mosaic Records in 2009.

Epic bing Crosby

Vainglory

Why is his mic better than mine 😔
Good song though

Barry I. Grauman

Because he had Murdo McKenzie as his audio engineer (he worked with Bing on his radio programs for years). Bing insisted on nothing less than perfection when he recorded his series- and he GOT it.
