Just One More Chance
Bing Crosby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just one more chance
To prove it's you alone I care for
Each night I say a little prayer for
Just one more chance

Just one more night
To taste the kisses that enchant me
I'd want no others if you'd grant me
Just one more chance

I've learned the meaning of repentance
Now you're the jury at my trial
I know that I should serve my sentence
Still, I'm hoping all the while
You'll give me

Just one more word
I said that I was glad to start out
But now I'm back to cry my heart out
For just one more chance

We spend our lives in groping for happiness
I found it once and tossed it aside
I paid for it with hours of loneliness
I've nothing to hide
I'd bury my pride for
(Mmm bo ba baboo)
Just one more chance
(Mmm bo ba ba boo)
Just one more chance

I've learned the meaning of repentance
Now you're the jury at my trial
I know that I should serve my sentence
Still, I'm hoping all the while
You'll give me

Just one more word
I said that I was glad to start out

But now I'm back to cry my heart out
For just one more chance

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bing Crosby's song "Just One More Chance" express a deep yearning and regret for a lost love. The singer is pleading for the opportunity to prove their love and devotion, to taste the kisses of their beloved once more, and to be given just one more chance to make things right. The themes of repentance, regret, and hope are woven throughout the lyrics, as the singer recognizes their mistakes and shortcomings and desperately seeks forgiveness and reconciliation.

The lyrics begin with the singer asking for "just one more chance to prove it's you alone I care for." This yearning is intensified with the lines "each night I say a little prayer for just one more chance" indicating a daily agony of being without their love. The second stanza reinforces this desire for physical contact, with the singer asking for "just one more night to taste the kisses that enchant me." They assure their love that there is no one else and that all they need is this one chance.

However, the lyrics also convey remorse and a desire for redemption. The singer acknowledges that they have "learned the meaning of repentance" and that they know they should "serve [their] sentence." The plea for just one more chance is combined with a willingness to accept the consequences of their actions, with the hope that their love will see their sincere desire for forgiveness and grant them that chance.

Has there ever been a better version of this song? Never!!! Love many of the song hits from 1931.

@roybo1930

This is among the First Bing Crosby Record`s I Bought! Along with 50 other Bing Records still in the sleeves! I first heard this on "Paper Moon" I Prayed that the record I bought was the version on the movie! IT IS! I Fell In Love with Bing Brunswick`s and now like 2 to have a complete collection! The two were not issued! "How The Time Can Fly" & "Sweet Sue"! I do have a Test Press of "Here Is My Heart", not the 1935 version, but the 1932!

@williamschlenger1518

I love this song, was just remembering the words and had to hear it. 😸

And man, listen to that piano too! I'd love to be able to play that.

I love it

@Trombonology

This one, along with "Please," represents Bing in the "Ardent Young Lover" phase of his long, successful career perhaps best of all. He was a revolution in pop singing and it would be impossible to overstate his impact and influence.

@CALILOVE4LIFE
