Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer
Bing Crosby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, you know Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer, and Vixen,
(Comet, and Cupid, and Donner and Blitzen)
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?

Talkin' 'bout Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows

All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas eve
Santa came to say
Rudolph, look here Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?

Then how the reindeer loved him
And they shouted out with glee
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
You'll go down in history

I'm Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
I got a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows, like a rose
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names

They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas eve
Santa came to say
Say Rudolph, I say, I say Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?

Then how the reindeer loved me
As they shouted out with glee
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
You'll go down in history

I'm Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer, and Vixen,

I'm Comet, and Cupid, and Donner, I'm something
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bing Crosby's "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" tell the classic tale of a young reindeer named Rudolph who is mocked and excluded by his peers because of his physical difference - a bright and shiny red nose. The song begins by listing the names of the other reindeer, highlighting their importance and well-known roles in Santa's sleigh-pulling team. However, the lyrics quickly shift to the tale of Rudolph, who is not originally included in the group of popular reindeer because of his uniqueness. The other reindeer mock and ridicule him, refusing to let him join in their games.

However, one fateful Christmas Eve, Santa Claus realizes that Rudolph's bright nose may be his ticket out of a foggy situation. He asks Rudolph to lead his sleigh that night, and Rudolph - proud of his uniqueness and proving his worth despite the bullying he faced - leads the team with his shining nose. The other reindeer are impressed and excited about Rudolph's newfound success, and they celebrate him. The final lines of the song proclaim that Rudolph is now famous and he will go down in history.

The lyrics to "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" have become a beloved classic during the holiday season with its catchy melody and uplifting message of embracing individuality despite the criticisms of others. It highlights themes of bullying, exclusion, and self-acceptance that are universally applicable and speak to audiences of all ages.

Impossible not to feel happy listening to Bing Crosby.

@winterweib

This is the best version in my eyes. I got it on a record many many years ago; I was a toddler, it was in the Sixties. Someone had bought the record in the U.S. And I never got it again on an other record! It wasn't added on the german version of his Christmas album, and everytime I bought a record with this song, it wasn't THIS. And finally, I lost my old record when moving :(
I only found it on ONE CD after many years, after I had stopped searching. It was pure accident^^. And now I am happy ProxTube gave it to me here :) Thank you this much for the upload! Have a very good Christmas. Greets from Berlin :)

@OctasLP

Thats True

@emg8810

Agreed. One problem: Bing turned down the song, then Autry sang it for a big HIT. Bing had a knack for turning down a lot of great songs.
