Snow
Bing Crosby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying

But as long as you love me so
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

Overall Meaning

The popular Christmas song "Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!" by Bing Crosby talks about treasuring the cozy moments indoors with your loved ones during a snowy winter, no matter how cold it may be outside. The singer explains how the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is delightful, creating a pleasant and warm atmosphere. Since they have no place to go, the singer invites the snow to keep falling outside. The second verse emphasizes the continuation of the snowfall and how the singer has bought some popcorn to enjoy during this stay-at-home time. The lights are low, creating a tranquil and serene environment.

The song continues with the idea of staying indoors, avoiding the storm outside, and cuddling with a loved one. The snow may be a nuisance, but as long as the singer's partner holds them tight, they will enjoy the warmth of each other while making their way home. The final verse is a bittersweet farewell to the moment, as the fire slowly dies out, and the singer must say goodbye to their partner. However, they express that as long as their partner loves them, they are content to let it snow.

Lol at all the Boomers claiming we don’t make art anymore.

This is a wonderful musical except for one major and honestly unforgivable flaw: an entire scene in blackface.

And they do make great art, and you don’t seem to be self-aware. I guarantee you rich folks in the 40s and 50s were lamenting how “the theater, the theater, what’s happened to the theatre.” In fact they make fun of those people in this movie, in the song Choreography.

Don’t be one of the people this movie mocks. Art is art, and every generation of fussypants has accused every successive generation of screwing up the culture. Like for thousands of years, with documented archaeological proof of it. It’s not real. It’s a flaw in our brains. That’s why every generation keeps doing it. It’s essentially acting like a child, tho, who also love to be scared of new things. So, let’s all be grownups and just appreciate this scene for what it is: sweet. Classic. Cozy.

Leave the kid stuff on your MySpace or TikTok or whatever.

For years I've admired Rosemary for being able to sing the line "I wanna wash my hands, my face and hair with snow" with a straight face.
