Some of These Days
Bing Crosby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Some of these days
You're gonna miss me honey
Some of these days
You're gonna be so lonely

You'll miss my huggin'
Gonna miss my kissin'
You'll be so sorry
When I'm away

Now you gonna be lonely
Just for me only
'Cause you know, honey
That you had your way

And when you leave me
You know it's gonna grieve me
You'll miss your little Daddy
Some of these days

And you gonna be lonely
Just for me only
'Cause you know, honey
That you had your way

And when you leave me

You know it's gonna grieve me
You'll miss your little Daddy-

Overall Meaning

The song "Some of These Days" by Bing Crosby features lyrics that express a sentiment that many can relate to: the feeling of regret and loneliness that comes after a breakup. The song paints a picture of a person who will eventually miss the love and affection of their partner, despite feeling strong and confident in their ability to move on initially. The lyrics suggest that the person who is being left behind is aware of the impact they've had on their partner's life and that they will continue to be missed in the future. The repeated use of "just for me only" emphasizes the idea that the singer was the only one who could truly fulfill their partner's needs, and now that they're gone, their absence will be deeply felt. The song's reference to "little Daddy" suggests that the singer has taken on the role of a nurturing and protective figure in their relationship, reinforcing the idea that they will be sorely missed once they're gone.

The singer's confident tone suggests that they know that their departure will have a lasting impact on their partner, regardless of how they may feel in the moment. This totally blew me away. I've always loved the things Crosby did with Bix, but this is even better. Just totally amazing, especially the full chorus of scat. Whatever he became after this he was a first rate jazz singer.

@harryhagan5937

You said it! Excellent. What a sense of pitch. He nails it, whether whistling, scatting, or straight singing, he's there.

@MrRezillo

@Harry Hagan Wow! You responded to a comment I made 14 years ago; how time flies.

@harryhagan5937

@rezillo And it was an intelligent comment then and now. I'm reading Gary Giddins' bio of Bing. I saw him in '76 in London. I played a good many dates with his laconic brother Bob. I never knew Bing could scat like that, either! His talent just oozed out of him. Such a natural.

@lillianbarutti4875

@@harryhagan5937 there will never be another Bing Crosby. He was simply awesome.

@harryhagan5937

@Lillian Barutti That's for sure. For all practical purposes, music itself is dead. Gone. RIP. I'm so glad I got to see him in London in '76. I played in bands led by his brother Bob, but that wasn't the same, or even close. He was a very nice man, though.

@bbdupon

This is a gem. Crosby could really swing.

Bing was quite simply the best pop singer of the 20th century. From his early days in the classic crooner style, to the sweet rich baritone of his later years, his voice was unmatched. I liked Sinatra who was a better stylist, but his voice couldn't hold a candle to Bing's.

@harryhagan5937

Both are best of all time. Just a bit different.

@Mom1910

Another talent like his shall never pass this way again.Thanks Bing for the music and movie legacy.
