I Love You Truly
Bing Crosby Buddy Cole and His Trio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can't forget the night I met you
That's all I'm dreaming of
And now you call it madness
But I call it love

You made a promise to be faithful
By all the stars above
And now you call it madness
But I call it love

My heart is beating
It keeps repeating
For you constantly
You're all I am needing
So I am pleading
Please come back to me

You made a plaything out of romance
What were you thinking of?
For now you call it madness
But I call it love

You've made a plaything out of romance
And what were you thinking of?

For now you call it madness
But I call it love

Overall Meaning

In "I Love You Truly," Bing Crosby Buddy Cole and His Trio sing about the undeniable strength of love, even when others might see it as a kind of madness. The song begins with the singer remembering the moment he met the object of his affection, which has become all-consuming for him. Although other people might question the validity of his emotions, he insists that it is true love. The singer relays that there was a promise made to be faithful, something that can be backed up by the "stars above," which he believes is a sign of a real commitment. Even though others might be confused by his devotion, the singer is convinced that it is love, not madness.

The chorus is filled with powerful emotions, specifically focusing on the singer's longing for the person he loves. He pleads with them to come back, insisting that they are all he needs. Later, the song touches on the idea that the singer's love interest treated their romance like a game, without considering the deep emotional impact it could have. Despite this, the song still asserts that the singer's feelings are very real.

Definitely, and Sinatra wanted to be like Crosby, but ironically he was super far from that soft crooning.

In my opinion, it'd be:

Al Bowlly
Lee Morse
Bing Crosby
Ruth Etting
Dean Martin
Frank Sinatra
Ella Fitzgerald
ABISM
Louis Armstrong

What would I give to go back in time just to see Bing perform live...

Lol I’d like to too but being Black means there’s a gamble on a “Whites Only” sign

@WacoDraco Bing didn’t support that, he was a good friend of Louis Armstrong and made sure he was treated and paid well whenever they entertained together. He also was asked once why he never tipped his black golf assistant and the black man said “he’s putting my son through college.”

Fantastic. Bing and Buddy are perfect together.

Edwin Lamarr "Buddy" Cole was a great keyboard technician and all around pianist/organist. A great talent!

Reminds me a lot of my favorite pianist, Nat King Cole.
