Again, very interesting observations from you. To me, it's not at all controversial that you like this album more than Revolver, which is a great landmark album. If Revolver was a significant departure from what they were doing before, this album is even further departure, continuing on that path. They do love their E Major, don't they.

"She's Leaving Home" is brilliant indeed, musically and lyrically. It is one my top favourites from this album, too. There is so much in that song. There's the story of the specific family, of course, but also a reflection of changes occurring in England: post-war food rationing had ended in 1954, the country had come out of the shadow of WWII and there was a generational shift.

"Within You Without You" is another favourite, perhaps underrated. I like the double, or possibly triple, meaning that I get (not sure if intended by George) from 'Life goes on ... without you' -- i.e. 'outside of you' as well as 'even if you did not exist' as well as, possibly, suggesting life having direction, flowing into you and out of you.

"A Day in the Life": Although I like all the songs on the album, this is another favourite. John Lennon has noted this one as a favourite for him. You might know this, but it was constructed from 2 songs, one from John and one from Paul, Paul's contribution being the middle part. Regarding the thunderous sound, Wikipedia has this: "Martin said that Lennon requested "a tremendous build-up, from nothing up to something absolutely like the end of the world", while McCartney realised this idea by drawing inspiration from Cage and Stockhausen."

Other notes:
1. "With a Little Help From My Friends" has a great bridge, the song is fun to sing (and play). Regarding Ringo's last note (from Rolling Stone magazine): "It took a lot of coaxing from Paul to get me to sing that last note," Starr admitted in a 1992 episode of . "I just felt it was very high. I always worry about the vocals. I’m insecure when I do the vocals."
2. "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds": Weren't there shifts in time as well as key?
3. "Getting Better": It's sad that the singer behaved that way in the past, but at least he seems to have already changed for the better.
4. "Fixing a Hole": Yes, great vocals but I particularly like that descending bit in the solo before the last "And it really doesn't matter ...". It's brilliant; the guitar seems to be a little off the beat. They often had what I call points of musical interest.
5. "Lovely Rita": The kazoo-like sound was done with comb and tissue paper, although the principle might the same, using a vibrating membrane, although the materials might differ.
6. "Sgt. Pepper's ... (Reprise)": You might have been wrong about what it was going to sound like (harder sound than you thought) but you made some good guesses on other ones. I think you initially guessed 'daughter' for "She's Leaving Home".

Thanks again for these and I am looking forward to the rest.

As you're heading into The Beatles' final albums, I recommend you listen to Let It Be before Abbey Road, despite Abbey Road coming out first. They recorded 95% of Let It Be before Abbey Road, and they meant for Abbey Road to be their Goodbye album. Many Beatles fans agree that Abbey Road is their true final album, and me and many others recommend you listen to that one last.

@Crisp Water the songs though oddly released after the White Album were heard on the film Yellow Submarine mid 68 ! 🤡

Gary Odom

Yes. Listen to Let it Be before Abbey Road.

@Peter Dunbar bruh that's just plain rude. I'm just saying it's cool how their final song is called The End.

I’ve always agreed that Abbey Road is their last album together. The album literally ends with “The End” like it was intentional; and then follows up with a little playful Easter egg ukulele tune to keep it light hearted.

I remember vividly going to a party the day after Sgt Pepper was released and discovering that the album had been bought by one of the part-goers. Once the initial dancing had tailed off, the album was played. And repeated time and again. We could not properly get our heads round what we were hearing. Music changed that night.

When this album.came out I was overseas off Vietnam nam and didn't get back until August almost the first thing I did was buy Sgt Pepper we played over and over again trying to analyze it and then with headphones that it really opened up. I first heard. A Day in the life on the car radio in early 67 and didn't believe it I hope the version you are listening to is in stereo it makes a big difference
