Birgit started singing in her final years of school. In the beginning these were pretty much unknown R&B and dance projects. In 1995 she started singing in the band Jeunes Turcs with her older sister Katja Schuurman. But her real breakthrough wasn't until 2001 with the song 'I know' from her Album Few Like Me.

My evening in a restaurant was ruined by terrible service. We went home and I listened to this great lady. She really rescued the night. I voted for her 17 times and my girlfriend became very jealous. Birgit looks like snowwhite in her stunning dress. Very romantic moment. Love it.
