Sleeping Pill
Birgit Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Every hour of the day
Nothing takes my thoughts away from you
Dozing of at work I see
Images of you and me seep through

Time knows there's a wound to heal
Somehow I still need to feel the pain
You're worth to feel the hurt

Running through my veins you're a sleeping pill
You go in and out
Like a fleeting cloud
Once you eased the pain
Now you send me chills
Making sure I cannot do without

Play your music bak it brings all your love the
Lady sings the blues
Play that record on and on
Longing for that same old song to sing with you
Again until the very end

Running through my veins you're a sleeping pill
You go in and out
Like a fleeting cloud
Once you eased the pain

Now you send me chills
Making sure I cannot do without

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Birgit's song "Sleeping Pill" reflect the pain and longing of a person who cannot stop thinking about someone they have lost. The first two lines suggest that the person is preoccupied with thoughts of their lost love all the time, even when they are at work. The next line, "Dozing off at work I see," further illustrates the person's inability to concentrate and focus, as they are constantly haunted by images of the person they have lost.

The following line, "Time knows there's a wound to heal," suggests that the person is aware that they need to move on and let go of the pain, but they are finding it difficult to do so. The next line, "Somehow I still need to feel the pain," reveals that the person is still clinging onto the pain of their loss and perhaps they feel that they still need to feel it in order to hold on to the memories of the person they have lost.

The chorus of the song, "Running through my veins, you're a sleeping pill," seems to suggest that the person is unable to let go of the memories of their lost love, and that these memories are like a drug that they cannot resist. The lines "Once you eased the pain, now you send me chills, making sure I cannot do without," emotively convey the idea that the memories of the lost love that were once comforting are now haunting and debilitating, yet the person can't help but continue to cling to them.
