More than 20 years later, he pastors what Christianity Today calls βone of Americaβs fastest growing mega-churches.β The Potterβs House, a multiracial nondenominational church with 59 active outreach ministries, has dominated church growth records since 1996. In only eight years since relocating the church from West Virginia to Dallas, The Potterβs House has grown from 50 families to more than 28,000 members to date. Rivaling many corporations, The Potterβs House employs more than 300 staff members including full-time finance, human relations, information technology, materials distribution, public relations and television production departments. The Potterβs House is fiscally sound, having recently paid off its newest $45 million, 191,000 sq. ft. structure that was completed less than four years ago.
Bishop Jakes was born on June 9, 1957 in South Charleston, W.Va. His parents, businessman and entrepreneur Ernest Sr. and educator Odith, were charitable benefactors in their community and to whom their son credits for his own integrity, discipline and selfreliance. Bishop Jakes is the CEO of The Potterβs House, a nonprofit organization that produces three major national conferences β βThe Pastorβs and Leadership Conference,β βManPowerβ and βWoman, Thou Art Loosed.β WTAL, a powerful and popular symposium, addresses specific needs of all women and has helped many go from welfare to work. The conference has set national indoor attendance records with an average of 84,500 attendees per day at the Georgia Dome in 1999. βManPower,β equips and encourages men to build strong marriages, increase their confidence and take on more responsibility in their community. βMega Festβ is a family affair combining βWoman, Thou Art Loosed,β βManPowerβ and the βYouth 3-D Experience,β a new youth conference. This summer, Mega Fest attracted more than 140,000 people from 55 countries and set a cumulative record attendance of 560,000 over the four-day period. Through broadcasting efforts, Mega Fest impacted more than 314 million homes in 235 countries and territories outside of the U.S. Mega Fest 2005 is scheduled August 3 β 6 in Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to the major conferences, Bishop Jakes hosts the Godβs Leading Ladies conference, which is designed to help women in leadership positions to develop financial, relationship and balancing skills.
In an effort to remedy social and economic voids in Urban America, Bishop Jakes founded the Metroplex Economic Development Corporation in 1998. The nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation has sponsored home ownership conferences and youth mentorship programs.Currently, MEDC is developing a job placement center, a skills training center, a small business counseling hotline and a housing development that will include affordable homes for senior citizens and single-parent families.
Additional endeavors to improve society include building two Habitat for Humanity homes in conjunction with the 2003 ManPower conference and making a $107,000 donation to relocate Dallas citizens from an economically and environmentally disadvantaged area. The Potterβs House was also responsible for building a hospital in Belize, Central America, named Belmopan to whom they later sent $400,000 for medical supplies. Bishop Jakes and The Potterβs House invested over $500,000 in outreach to prison inmates. Their βAdopt A Prisonβ program has impacted inmates giving them a way to reduce the rate of recidivism through spiritual support and a network of churches who have awareness to the plight of
inmates reentering the system.

Come To Me
Bishop T.D. Jakes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I can see the pain in your eyes
Let me inside your mind
Who knows what we might find
You've been crying for to many years
He's not worth a single tear
So run with me, don't push me away Dry your eyes and live for today
So come and get me here I am
Come and get me here I am
Come and get me here I am
Come and get me I wanna be your man
How long since you danced in the rain
You've been kept on the end of a chain
Trapped in world of bad love
From him you're not good enough
Here's my number - give me a call
I can promise we'll have a ball
Let me know what you desire
Because I'm a man on fire
So come and get me here I am
Come and get me here I am
Come and get me here I am
Come and get me I wanna be your man
Come and get me, I'm here tonight
You know that I'll treat you right
So let me make this clear
Come and get me - I'm right here
It's time to forget what's gone before
You've no need to cry anymore
Look into my eyes, don't say a thing
It's time for a new love to begin
In the opening lines of βCome To Me,β Bishop T.D. Jakes portrays a tender and empathetic connection with someone who is evidently suffering. The juxtaposition of the belovedβs smile making the singer cry suggests a complex emotional landscape; it reflects joy intertwined with deep sorrow. The singer perceives the pain hidden beneath the surface, exemplifying emotional intuition and the desire to delve deeper into the beloved's psyche. The lines "Let me inside your mind / Who knows what we might find" communicate an earnest invitation to share vulnerability and open up about past traumas. This initial passage sets the tone for a relationship built on understanding and authenticity, encouraging healing through mutual connection.
The second verse transitions into a more assertive and empowering message aimed at the beloved, indicating that they have endured much suffering at the hands of an unworthy partner. The phrase βHeβs not worth a single tearβ serves to liberate the beloved from their emotional shackles, urging them to break free from a toxic relationship that has rendered them emotionally stifled. The encouragement to "run with me, don't push me away" signifies the singerβs readiness to provide support and companionship, contrasting with the loneliness born from their past. The call to βlive for todayβ serves as a reminder to embrace the present, nudging the beloved toward a sense of agency and new beginnings, while also beckoning them to dry their tears and look forward rather than dwelling in past hurt.
As the song progresses, the chorus of βCome and get me here I amβ resonates with a sense of urgency and availability. The repetition emphasizes the singer's desire for the beloved to take that leap of faith towards a new relationship, signifying readiness and a willingness to embrace love wholeheartedly. This refrain creates an inviting and hopeful atmosphere, making it clear that the singer is confident and committed; they want to be the remedy for the belovedβs pain. The tone shifts from merely observational to actively involved, displaying an eagerness to nurture and cherish, which reinforces the impact of their promise to be a source of genuine affection and care.
In the latter part of the song, the singer encourages the beloved to shed the burdens of their past. Questions about how long it has been since they danced in the rain metaphorically suggest reclaiming joy and spontaneityβa stark contrast to the 'chain' of bad love that has constrained them. The offer of a phone number symbolizes a tangible point of connection, as the commitment to have fun and explore desires showcases the singer's passion and enthusiasm. The assertion in the lines βItβs time to forget what's gone beforeβ reinforces a message of renewal, urging the beloved to look forward with hope rather than reflect on sorrow. Ultimately, the song is a heartfelt invitation to embark on a new journey of love, healing, and self-discovery, encouraging the beloved to recognize their worth and embrace the promise of a brighter future.
