Switzerland
Bison Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We tried to sleep up in the banks of snow
But soon discovered it was far too cold
So we then retreated into town
To? nd a place where there was level ground

Oh
Call home
Oh oh Switzerland
You? ve taken way my breath now once again
You? ve left me with a sense of compassion
For the ones who
Cant pick them selves up off the ground

Oh Switzerland
I never thought id have you as a friend
I′m praying it was not at all pretend
I need you now
To help pick me up from off the ground

Our drinks were hardly worth the price we paid
But we thanked God for them anyways and
With five minutes left we broke our backs
To spend more money than either of us had

Oh
Call home

Overall Meaning

In Bison's song "Switzerland," the band describes the challenges they faced sleeping outside in the snow and subsequent retreat into town to find level ground. The song seems to follow a journey or experience in Switzerland that left the singer with a sense of compassion for those who struggle to pick themselves up off the ground. The lyrics evoke a feeling of vulnerability and dependency, both on the harsh environment of the Swiss wilderness and on the kindness of strangers in a strange land.

The phrase "Oh oh Switzerland" is used throughout the song as a refrain, creating a sense of longing and gratitude for the country that has deeply affected the singer. The chorus repeats this gratitude, reinforcing the idea that Switzerland has somehow changed the singer's perspective and become a source of comfort and strength. The final line, "Call home," suggests a longing for connection and a desire to return to a place where the singer feels safe and secure.

Overall, "Switzerland" is a poignant song that captures the highs and lows of travel, and the power that a place can have to shape our emotions and experiences. The song's beautiful melody and evocative lyrics make it a standout track that will resonate with anyone who has ever embarked on a journey into the unknown.
