Where Is the Line
Björk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you

My purse wide open
You ask again
I see you trying to
Cash into accounts everywhere

Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you

I want to be flexible
I want to go out
Of my way for you
But enough is enough

Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you

I want to be elastic
I want to go
Out of my way for you
I want to help you

Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you

I want to have
Capacity over you
And be elastic
To be elastic, elastic

Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you

Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you

I'm elastic for you

Where is the line with you

Where is the line with you
Where is the line with you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Björk's "Where Is the Line" explore the theme of boundaries in a relationship, specifically where the limits lie with the other person. In the opening lines, Björk repeats the question "Where is the line with you?" multiple times, indicating her confusion and uncertainty about where her partner stands. The next lines describe her purse being left wide open while her partner tries to cash in on her finances, indicative of a lack of trust and mutual respect in the relationship.

Despite this mistreatment, Björk expresses her desire to be flexible and go out of her way for her partner, but also acknowledges that enough is enough. She wants to help her partner but also maintain her own boundaries and sense of self. The repetition of "I want to be elastic" emphasizes her desire to be able to stretch and adapt to her partner's needs, but also not to lose herself in the process.

The last lines of the song, "I'm elastic for you/Where is the line with you," suggest a give-and-take in the relationship, with Björk willing to be flexible and accommodating to her partner, but also expecting them to respect her limits and boundaries.

Overall, "Where Is the Line" is a poignant exploration of the complexities of relationships and the struggle to balance flexibility and boundaries.

Omg I found it!! Someone in my high school art class played this on a mix CD while we were working. I didn't know who Bjork was at the time. You could tell my teacher was not familiar with her either. "I don't know Rachael, this is preeeetty weird...." That line just stuck with me XD I mean imagine you've just been quietly painting to the Garden State soundtrack, and then someone comes and puts this on.

@openskiesmedia

Fuck yeah, Rachael. That's the way to do it.

@duw4ng

Rachael sounds rad. Hope she's doing well.
