Aurora
Bjork Lyrics

The glacier head
Looking hard for
Moments of shine
From twilight
To twilight
Utter mundane, oh
Goddess sparkle
Shoot me
Beyond this suffer
The need
Is great
Aurora
Utter mundane, oh
Aurora
Goddess sparkle
A mountain shade
Suggests your shape
I tumbled down
On my knees
Fill the mouth
With snow
The way it melts
I wish
To melt
Into you
Aurora
Utter mundane, oh
Spark the sun off
Spark the sun off
Spark the sun off
Spark the sun off me
The lyrics to Björk's song Aurora are filled with imagery and metaphors that convey a sense of longing and transcendence. The opening lines, "Threading the glacier head, looking hard for moments of shine," suggest a sense of searching or seeking something elusive, possibly a moment of clarity or enlightenment. The repetition of "twilight to twilight" reinforces the idea that this search may be ongoing, and that the moments of shine are few and fleeting.
The chorus introduces the figure of Aurora, a goddess-like being who represents a spark of something beyond the mundane. Björk sings, "Aurora, goddess sparkle, shoot me beyond this suffer, the need is great." Here, Aurora is presented as an almost magical force that can help the singer transcend their pain or suffering.
The verses that follow continue to use vivid imagery to express the singer's desire to melt into Aurora. The lines "a mountain shade suggests your shape, I tumbled down on my knees" suggest a sense of awe and reverence for this divine presence. The chorus repeats, with the addition of the line "spark the sun off me," as if the singer is seeking to be consumed by Aurora's brilliance and shed their mundane existence.
Overall, the lyrics to Aurora are a beautiful and evocative expression of the human desire for transcendence and the search for something beyond the everyday.

I remember crossing the world
with my father
towards Norway, just to see
the northern lights and
cross it off
our bucket lists, although I still
want to see them again, one day.
We spent so many
nights - and they are long there -
looking for them, talking endlessly
and mostly about
the phenomenon.
When we finally saw them light up
the sky, I looked
to my side
and never saw him cry as much.

I hesitate to write you, since I don't want to cause you pain. Okay I do. The sun, the fusion reactor that supplies us with the photons needed to let life thrive, is bombarding us with hard gamma rays that kill life. But our magnetic field created out of Earth's core, is protecting us, only visible in it's weakness around the poles.
What a lovely synchronous picture of life that is not alive at present, but still is there in a greater system of physics and reality and it persists and protects its self-creation.
Whenever you go close to the poles and you look up to the clear night sky, with every solar storm you see a reflection of life, a reflection of her. And together with your thoughts that you share, she crystallises in all of that and is present, because she's not forgotten.
