My Juvenile
Bjork Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Down the corridor
I send warmth
I send warmth

Down the staircase
I send warmth
I send warmth
Thank you for, again
To get to be able
To send warmth
To send warmth

Perhaps I set you too free
Too fast
Too young

But the intentions were pure
But the intentions were pure

My juvenile
My juvenile
My juvenile
I truly say
You are my biggest love

I clumsily try to free you from me
One last embrace
To tie a sacred ribbon

This is an offer to better the last let go
This is an offer to better the last let go
This is an offer to better the last let go

The intentions were pure

My juvenile
My juvenile
My juvenile
My juvenile

My juvenile
My juvenile

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Björk's song My Juvenile express a sense of nostalgia and a longing for a lost love. The repetition of the phrase "I send warmth" in the first two stanzas is a metaphor for the singer's attempt to reach out to her lost love, to warm his heart and remind him of their past. It is as if she is sending her love through the corridors and staircase of his memory, trying to rekindle the flame that once burned between them.

The line "Perhaps I set you too free, too fast, too young" suggests that the singer may have pushed her lover away too soon, without fully realizing the depth of his feelings for her. Despite her regret, she acknowledges that her intentions were pure - she only wanted to give her lover the freedom he deserved. The repetition of the phrase "My juvenile" emphasizes the singer's sense of tenderness and protectiveness towards her lover, who she sees as a vulnerable and precious soul.

The final stanza of the song expresses a sense of closure, as the singer tries to let go of her lover with one last embrace and a sacred ribbon. However, in the repetition of the phrase "My juvenile", she also acknowledges that her love for him will never truly fade away.

The song brings up themes of love, loss, regret and the complexity of human relationships. It is a haunting and emotional reflection on the fragility of love and the pain of letting go.

I'm surprised some think this is a weak point, I think it's heartbreakingly beautiful.

always such a haunting song and a beautiful, interesting ending to this album. I feel like the whole album is a buildup to this last song. there's a strong sense of anxiety and neurosis presented in the narrative and then this ending is like an acceptance. it's also a strong foreshadowing of a lot of what biophilia would explore. I always took her last song as a hint about what the next album will be about, and also as her general outlook on life at that time. presents any optimism or fear... she's such a genius I can't get over it.

i get sad because, i think by by 2075 I will for sure be gone. and bjork will be gone before that. and i think when they hear her songs in the future, will they see the beauty of all of them, because it takes a long time to realize how artistic her music is, even for me. ive been a fan since 1995, and i go back and forth with other artists, but bjork is simply the best in my opinion, in choosing ideas, lyrics, sounds, etc. creative amazing woman.
