The Dull Flame of Desire
Bjork Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I love your eyes, my dear
Their splendid sparkling fire
When suddenly you raise them so
To cast a swift embracing glance

Like lightning flashing in the sky
But there's a charm that is greater still
When my love's eyes are lowered
When all is fired by passion's kiss

And through the downcast lashes
I see the dull flame of desire
And through the downcast lashes
I see the dull flame of desire

I love your eyes, my dear
Their splendid sparkling fire
When suddenly you raise them so
To cast a swift embracing glance

Like lightning flashing in the sky
But there's a charm that is greater still
When my love's eyes are lowered
When all is fired by passion's kiss

And through the downcast lashes
I see the dull flame of desire
And through the downcast lashes
I see the dull flame of desire

Oh flame, dull flame
Oh flame, dull flame

I love your eyes, my dear
Their splendid sparkling fire
When suddenly you raise them so
To cast a swift embracing glance

Like lightning flashing in the sky
But there's a charm that is greater still
When my love's eyes are lowered
When all is fired by passion's kiss

And through the downcast lashes
I see the dull flame of desire
Through the downcast lashes
I see the dull flame of desire

Dull flame, dull fame
Oh flame

I love your eyes, my dear
Their splendid sparkling fire
When suddenly you raise them so
To cast a swift embracing glance

Like lightning flashing in the sky
But there's a charm that is greater still
When my love's eyes are lowered
When all is fired by passion's kiss

Through the downcast lashes
I see the dull flame of desire
And through the downcast lashes
I see the dull flame of desire

And through the downcast lashes
I see the dull flame of desire

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "The Dull Flame of Desire" by Björk describe the beauty and charm of the eyes of the singer's lover. The opening lines express how much the singer is enamored with their dear one's fiery sparkling eyes. The next stanza emphasizes the enchanting effect of the lover's eyes when lowered and heavy with desire. The downcast lashes allow the singer to catch a glimpse of the dull flame of desire. The repetition of the last stanza further emphasizes the lover's beautiful eyes and the dull flame of desire. The dullness of the flame could suggest the deep intensity of passions that can't be expressed in words or actions.

Do one for me

@theodecker

their voices are like puzzle pieces, they match perfectly together

@mimzymolotov

I like this. It is unusual. Kinda Nordic and Wagnerian. I have never heard the guy before but his voice captivates me. Her songs are more like paintings then pop music, and she takes me to places I've never been before in ways I wouldn't imagine.

@erika6651

It's like a mix of 00's Timbaland with Wagner lol T was big into horns back then. I quite sure the guy is actually female - or possibly trans?

@grayj7441

I think he comes from the Warhol, Lou Reed era.
