Sometimes for the Asking
Black Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
sometimes we smile at each other,
sometimes you give a lot
when really you'd rather not.
And sometimes you pray,
sometimes you tell a lie,
sometimes you take a hold
of this your living day.
and I'll wager there's one here who'll try
to make a fool of you.
You're crying out for more,
Sometimes you laugh,
sometimes we smile at each other,
sometimes you give a lot
when really you'd rather not.
And sometimes you pray,
and sometimes you tell a lie,
sometimes you take a hold
of this your living day.
So many dreams for the asking
and I'll wager there's one here who'll try
to make a fool of you.
You're crying out for more,
So many dreams for the asking
and I'll wager there's one here who'll try
to make a man of you.
You're crying out for more,

So many dreams for the asking
and I'll wager there's one here who'll try
to make a fool of you.
You're crying out for more,
So many dreams for the asking
and I'll wager there's one here who'll try
to make a man of you.
You're crying out for more,
The song "Sometimes for the Asking" by Black is a reflective piece that highlights the complexity of human emotions and interactions. The opening lines suggest that sometimes we laugh and smile at each other, which shows a genuine connection and moments of shared joy. Other times, we give a lot even when we don't want to, indicating our willingness to put others first despite our own reservations. The lyrics also acknowledge that we can sometimes pray, lie, or take hold of our living day, indicating the multifaceted nature of human existence and our ability to make choices that lead to both positive and negative outcomes.
The song is centered around the idea that there are many dreams for the asking, but that there may be others who will try to make a fool of us, perhaps taking advantage of our vulnerability or desire for more. The repeated phrase "you're crying out for more, more, more, more, more" serves as a chorus, emphasizing the sense of longing and desire for fulfillment that we all experience. The final lines shift slightly to suggest that there may be someone who will try to make a man of us, implying that growth and personal development come not only from our successes but also from our struggles and the challenges that we face.
Overall, "Sometimes for the Asking" speaks to the human condition and the ups and downs that we all experience throughout our lives. The lyrics offer a sense of empathy and understanding for the complexity of emotions and experiences that we encounter, reminding us that we are all united in our shared humanity.
