Stormy Waters
Black Lyrics

I seen the signs
Won't waste my time any longer
You made youur choice
So go let it loose
Go play and lose... with the rainbows
Where I don't know what I see when I look at you now
Did you give yourself to him
Dip your stupid toes in stormy waters
Stormy Waters
You look lonely and cold
A thousand years old
And you're eyes don't show what you have but you've sold
And I don't need to know
But I want to know
The lyrics to Black's song "Stormy Waters" discuss the aftermath of a breakup and the lingering feelings that come with it. The singer has come to terms with the fact that their partner has chosen to be with someone else and they won't waste any more time trying to change their mind. The line "go play and lose... with the rainbows" implies that the singer believes their ex is seeking something fleeting and insubstantial instead of something real and meaningful.
The chorus of the song poses a series of questions to the ex-partner: "Did you lie down for him? Did you give yourself to him? Dip your stupid toes in stormy waters?" These questions suggest that the singer suspects their ex may have made a mistake in pursuing this new relationship, and that they may face "stormy waters" ahead.
The second verse of the song explores the contrast between the outer appearance of the ex-partner and the emotional turmoil they may be experiencing internally. The lyrics describe the ex as "lonely and cold" with eyes that "don't show what you have but you've sold." This poignant metaphor suggests that the ex has given up something valuable for something fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying.
