Black Dawn Lyrics

Goddess of the (broad) high ways, of the crossroads
Thou who goest (to and fro) at night, torch in hand
Enemy of the day, friend and lover of darkness
Thou who art walking amid the phantom and in the place of tombs
Thou whose thirst is blood
Gorgo, mormo, moon of a thousand forms
Cast a propitious eye upon our sacrifice
The lyrics to Black Dawn's song "Of Blackest Witchcraft" invokes a dark, mystical and supernatural atmosphere. The song begins with an invocation to the infernal, terrestrial and heavenly hosts, which could imply that the singer is summoning the supernatural world in its entirety. The following lines continue to invoke the goddess of crossroads, who is associated with magic and witchcraft. As the lyrics progress, they depict the goddess as one who walks the night with a torch in hand, who is an enemy of the day and a friend and lover of darkness.
The lyrics continue to describe the goddess as one who walks amid the phantom and in places of tombs, with a thirst for blood and an ability to strike chill fear into mortal hearts. The goddess is then referred to as Gorgo, Mormo, moon of a thousand forms, which returns the listener to the supernatural theme the song began with. The final line, "Cast a propitious eye upon our sacrifice", implies that the singer is offering a sacrifice to the supernatural world they have invoked, asking for blessings, power, or favors in return. The song is an invitation to the dark forces of the universe and an ode to the goddess of crossroads.
