Their debut album won the Norwegian "Spellemannsprisen" (the Norwegian Grammy) in 1999, but the price was soon taken away from them. It turned out that price-presenter Kristopher Schau (from The Cumshots) is a close friend of the band and intentionally announced the wrong winner. The real winner of the metal-category this year was The Kovenant for their album Nexus Polaris.

Styrk Norskfaget!
Black Debbath Lyrics

Ungdommen sakker akterut

The lyrics of "Styrk Norskfaget!" by Black Debbath critique the decline of reading and writing skills among Norwegian youth. The song expresses frustration with the emergence of simplified language and shortcuts propelled by SMS and anglicisms. It laments the reduced significance of logopedics (speech therapy) and the confusion around grammatical concepts such as the first and second conditional or the future tense. The song stresses the importance of linguistic skills when it comes to comprehending and mastering other subjects in school. It urges the strengthening of the teaching and learning of the Norwegian language in schools.
The song delivers a powerful message about education and its significance in shaping the future of society. It highlights the role of language in creating identities and preserving culture. The lyrics also mention the importance of continuity and adherence to agreed upon spelling reforms in order to avoid confusion.

(Reading and writing skills among the young are not as they should be. So, it is necessary to strengthen the teaching of the Norwegian language in schools and the education of teachers. Language skills are indeed necessary when one is to acquire knowledge in all theoretical subjects in school.)
