They formed in Providence, Rhode Island, United States in 1997, comprising members Bjorn Copeland (guitar), Hisham Bharoocha (drums) (following a short drumming stint by Lightning Bolt's Brian Chippendale), Sebastian Blanck (bass) and Eric Copeland (vocals). After the band relocated to New York City, Sebastian Blanck left and was replaced by Aaron Warren. Hisham Bharoocha had previously sung for Lightning Bolt and is currently working on other projects, but he left the band too and is now working as a solo musician Soft Circle.

Black Dice have considerably changed their sound since their inception, moving from a noisy, thrashy style to their current, trippy, more electronic music. They Released 'Broken Ear Record' on James Murphy (Of LCD Soundsystem) and Tim Goldsmith's DFA label. In May 2007 they released a 12" on Paw Tracks and they have released 'Load Blown' in October 2007 on the same label.

homestarfan, have you ever TRIED to work with anything similar to that kind of equipment? I know it sounds easy to just push buttons and twist knobs at certain times, but I have enough trouble going back and forth on my guitar pedals. All those sounds are not easy to control and can easy just go all apeshit on you.

I hope you're just flaming. These guys are very skilled at syncing up these crazy crazy noises and using heavy driving forces. Their songs do have some pretty solid structures.

ZOMG did you see that, he just pushed a button in time to a rhythm and turned knobs. And he's only 20 something years old. Isn't this guy a musical prodigy. This would be amazing if this were a 2 year old, not a full grown adult.

Come on, any three year old could do this. Just push buttons on some sort of regular intervals and turn knobs. Don't even follow any structure or worry about quality, we'll sell whatever the hell you make.

I dont get it? you wouldnt know what to do with music by The Magic Band (1969-1972) or Frank Zappa's Black Page or Purple Lagoon or Echidna's Arf. You wouldnt even have your precious PHISH without them. I just really appreciate good, inventive music. Also, you wouldnt need quotes of famous musicians to back up their music if their music was really that great. Im tired of talking about phish already, dude. Lets stop, alright?

how in the hell do you know their thoughts or emotions???....there are plenty of skilled musicians making shitty, contrived music...at least this is raw, real, and honest...comparable to Andy Warhol as an artist...he was no Michelangelo, but his art pushed buttons, as yours obviously are being pushed by this band........

That statement came out wrong, I just didn't care for your original comment. I happen to be a fan of trey anastasio, I loved the oysterhead cd, I just meant to say that music should be innovative, exploring new boundaries. You cant tell me that there arent a ton of bands that sound like Phish and all the other hippie jambands out there. No one sounds like black dice (dont come back with any "no one wants to sound like them" crap, either).

This sucks so much. I only heard of these guys by watching Lightning Bolt and what they say about this. This isn't music... This is a waste of time. This is something anyone can do if they have the money to buy this gear and the time to waste. No skill at all. Wow.

They don't ever change it up though. It's the same thing over and over and over and over for 10 minutes. No improvisation, no alternating verses, just clicks and pulses. These guys aren't making music, this doesn't express their thoughts or emotions in any way.
