Black Eyed Peas went to centenary state high school and got their start in 1988 when will.i.am (born 1975 William James Adams Jr.) and apl.de.ap (born 1974 Allan Pineda) began rapping and performing together around Los Angeles. The pair signed to Ruthless Records (run by Eazy-E) after catching the attention of the nephew of Jerry Heller (Eazy-E's manager). Along with Mookie Mook (Burning Star), Dante Santiago & DJ Motiv8, they called their group A.T.B.A.N. Klann. Their debut album, 'Grass Roots', was not released originally because Ruthless did not consider the social themes reflected in the group's music to be marketable to their audience. A single "Puddles of H2O" was released in 1994 but no album was released (until it leaked onto the Internet in the mid 2000s).
After Eazy-E died of an AIDS related illness in 1995, they changed their name to Black Eyed Peas; will.i.am explained on the front cover of the Monkey Business album that "Black Eyed Peas are food for the soul", hence the name. will.i.am has cited the Red Hot Chili Peppers as an influence and said he named his band after a food, like them. They replaced their original third member Mookie, with Dante Santiago the Peas original singer. Then Taboo (born Jaime Gomez) joined the group. Dante Santiago took on a role as a guest vocalist in the band and featured frequently on various tracks for their first four albums.
In 1996, they produced and appeared on a song entitled "That's Right" for Brian Austin Green's hip-hop album One Stop Carnival. Later, they began using Kim Hill as a steady background singer. Unlike many hip-hop acts, they chose to perform with a live band and adopted a musical and clothing style that differed wildly from the "gangsta rap" sounds of other Los Angeles-based hip-hop acts at the time. Through the mid-'90s, they performed in the local club circuit alongside fellow acts such as Ozomatli and Jurassic 5.
The group were signed to Interscope Records and released their debut, "Behind the Front", in 1998. The album won the group (and their accompanying live band, the Bucky Jonsons) critical acclaim. The album featured the single "Joints & Jams", which was included on the Bulworth soundtrack. Their second album, "Bridging the Gap", was released in 2000; it featured the single "Request + Line" featuring Macy Gray.
After replacing their female background singer with Fergie, the group released their breakout album, "Elephunk", and their 2005 album, "Monkey Business", which featured the hit singles "Pump It", "Don't Phunk With My Heart", "Don't Lie" and "My Humps".
"The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies)", their fifth album, was released worldwide in June 2009 and has managed to sell 5 million copies in 8 months (Elephunk: 7 million, Monkey Business: 10 million). It already spawned 2 of the most downloaded singles of all time: "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling", both were downloaded 5 million times only in the USA. The 3rd single "Meet Me Halfway" was downloaded 2 million times and the 4th "Imma Be", which was just released, already sold 1 million. "Rock That Body" is the 5th single.

Labor Day
Black Eyed Peas Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I bring the heat like the month of June
Crank the volume, make the bass go boom
Wild out like we some wild baboons (ooh-ooh)
We go bananas to the tune
I wanna throw 'bows, give me elbow room (move, nigga)
When I'm out my cocoon I'm ready to consume
Let's hit the saloon 'cause
And that's the way we do it
We get a little loopy off the ignorant fluid
And act a little stupid just in case you didn't knew it
That's just how we do it, don't ask why we do it (ooh-ooh)
That's just the way it be
Lovin' double D's, up at the A-D
When I party in Hollywood, V-I-P
I don't understand the S-T-O-P 'cause
We party forever and get down together
We don't stop, no, and we don't quit
Let's get it going 'cause you know we gon' celebrate
'Cause it's a holiday, I don't work today
Or the next three days
So let's celebrate, 'cause it's a holiday
I don't work today, nah
Pardon me as I celebrate (ooh-ooh)
It's time to celebrate
Servin' up beatbox on a hot plate
Like that y'all, we on a festive date
Make you go ape then raise your heart rate (ooh-ooh)
We gon' stay out late
Party 'til the morning and wake up late
We do it to the day break
Go on and on and then on and on and (ooh-ooh)
Dance to my rhyme
I could holla acappellas deaf 'til you're blind
You're mine, baby
Take you too the moon from your behind, baby
Take a super moment, just recline, baby
Cock me back and stroke my nine, baby
We don't stop, girl, we don't quit (no)
We don't quit (no), we don't quit
We party forever and get down together
We don't stop, no, and we don't quit
Let's get it going 'cause you know we gon' celebrate
'Cause it's a holiday, I don't work today
Or the next three days
So let's celebrate, 'cause it's a holiday
I don't work today, nah
Pardon me as I celebrate
Don't stop me, just push it
Don't stop it, just push it
Move your body and push it
Get naughty and push it
We gon' party and bullshit
We gon' party and push it
Move your body and push it
Get naughty and push it, 'cause
It's a holiday, pardon me as I celebrate (ooh-ooh)
It's time to get wasted and scope the whole place
For girls with cute faces (ooh-ooh)
'Cause I see some fly mamas so pack your pajamas
But don't bring the drama (ooh-ooh)
But you could bring your melody
I'll plug in my mic and sing my harmonies (la la la)
For how many times we gonna hit it
How many times we gonna split it
How many times you gonna get it (get it)
Or else you are gonna wanna come over
You're gonna have to wanna (man)
'Cause I'm the alligator champ
Driving the train, driving the train
Or you could throw your friend and I switch my lane
And get buddy buddy with your friend Mary Jane
She really blows my brain (brain)
She really blows my brain (brain)
We party forever and get down together
We don't stop, no, and we don't quit (yeah)
Let's get it going 'cause you know we gon' celebrate
(Said we do it everyday)
'Cause it's a holiday (and we do it every night)
I don't work today (and we do it at the club)
Yeah, uh, it's my birthday
So let's celebrate, 'cause it's a holiday
I don't work today, nah
Pardon me as I celebrate
The song "Labor" by Black Eyed Peas is a celebratory track about partying and having a good time. The lyrics are essentially a call to action for listeners to let loose and enjoy themselves. The song has a catchy beat and the lyrics are simple and easy to sing along to. The opening lines of the song "When I step in the room, I bring the heat like the month of June" immediately sets the tone for the party anthem.
Throughout the song, the band talks about getting wild, dancing, and drinking. They mention their love of double D's and partying in VIP sections in Hollywood. The chorus "We party forever, We get down together, We don't stop, no! And we don't quit" perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the song. The lyrics are repetitive, creating a hypnotic effect that makes the listener feel like they’re right in the middle of a party.
The song also includes a break section where the band encourages listeners to push their bodies and get naughty. The break section is followed by a verse where the band talks about getting wasted and hooking up with girls. The song ends with the band chanting "So we do it every day, So we do it every night, And we do it in the club, Yeah, ugh, it's my birthday" over and over again.
Overall, "Labor" is a fun and energetic song that is perfect for parties and dancing. The song is all about letting go of inhibitions and enjoying life to the fullest.
