After touring, they immediately set up at Thinman Studios in Brooklyn and began writing and recording. The band lineup was complete with the addition of guitarist Alistair Paxton and bass player Siggy. The result is Black Gold, music with an addictive collection of songs evoking T-Rex, Satie, Chic, Quincy Jones-era Michael Jackson, Bowie, the brothers Gibb and the Band.

Awake to half of what you want and used to be
You think no one sees you
When you don't pretend
You turn your back again
To meet your ends
Daddy wants you
Daddy wants you
Daddy won't you won't you won't you won't?
They filled the streets
With silver screens
They're burning now,
Your pictures at the show
Alone around your friends
They see right through your silhouette and tattered ends
You think no one hears you
No matter what you say
It bottles up inside
'til you get your way
Daddy wants you
Daddy won't you?
Daddy wants you
Daddy won't you won't you won't you won't?
They filled the streets
With silver screens
They're burning now,
Your pictures at the show
And all you want is your fix until it's over
They filled the streets
With silver screens
They're burning now,
Your pictures at the show
And all you want is to drift until it's over
And all they want is to tear and bring you down
And all you want is your fix until it's over
And all they want is to drag and pull you down
The lyrics to Black Gold's song "Silver" seem to describe a person who is struggling to hold onto their identity and authenticity in the face of societal pressures and the influence of others. The song opens with the line "Hold on to what you lost," suggesting that the subject may have already lost a part of themselves to the demands of others. The lyric "Awake to half of what you want and used to be" further emphasizes the idea that the person is not fully satisfied with who they are or who they have become.
The chorus of the song features the repeated refrain "Daddy wants you, Daddy won't you?" This could be interpreted as a metaphorical representation of the pressures that the person feels from authority figures or those with power over them. The line "They filled the streets with silver screens" may refer to the pervasive influence of media and popular culture on the subject's perception of themselves and the world around them.
The final verse of the song seems to reinforce the idea that the subject is struggling with addiction or dependence on something that helps them escape from their problems temporarily. The line "And all you want is your fix until it's over" suggests that the person is seeking some form of comfort or escape, but that it is ultimately empty and unfulfilling. The repeated line "And all they want is to tear and bring you down" may represent the negative influence of others in the person's life who are not supportive of their struggle to find themselves.
Overall, "Silver" is a song that explores themes of identity, addiction, and societal pressures. It paints a picture of a person who is struggling to find their way in a world that is constantly pushing them to conform and be someone they are not.
