The story behind this song is crazy. This song was written in less than 12 hours and released in under 24. Just finishing the 32nd of a 34-city tour he wrote this the night after his performance in Vegas, October 19, 2012. The Heart Pt 2 had featured singer Alori Joh who was a TDE affiliate and also Ab Soul's girlfriend who committed suicide back in February of 2012 by leaping from a radio tower while at the studio recording. The Heart Pt 3 was recorded and some of the lyrics seem like references to her such as when Kendrick says "This last year been quite similar to Aaliyah" and "Find the tallest building in Vegas and jump off it" while being in the studio in Vegas recording it. Then the transition from Kendrick's voice to Ab-Soul's makes it more heartfelt. The tour began a short time after her death so they had to mourn her death as it went on...I know this sounds like alot but hearing this just makes you think about it. Ab Soul wrote a song about her 3 months later called The Book of Soul if any of you want to check it out. Extremely heartfelt and raw, in my opinion, one of the most personalized and saddest songs I've heard.

This song is so incredibly deep. Kendrick knows he has been passed the torch... He is speaking with the intent of greats like Pac. The track is an account of how difficult it is to be the man in this position, when you know the conscious weight of hip hop is on his shoulders. This is the burden of only writers of the highest caliper. No one makes music to change the world like Kenny does (or like many of the greats have), and I believe the beauty in this song resides in his complete pledge to us as listeners within the culture. Gotta appreciate that!! Peace and love
