The band's second album 'Take Them On, On Your Own' featured several songs ('Generation' and 'US Government') which were critical of the United States' foreign policy and George Bush in particular.
After conflict with their label (Virgin Records), the band was dropped in 2004. Nick Jago left the band at the end of their summer tour in the same year due to "internal conflict".
Following Jago's departure Peter Hayes and Robert Levon Been regrouped and recorded the band's third album. With their third record Howl, they added blues, folk and gospel, a la Spiritualized.
In 2005 the band inked a new deal with Echo in the UK, and RCA in the US. Nick Jago also returned to the fold. The band's third album "Howl" was released that same year to widespread critical acclaim. Jago returned after most of the album was recorded but played on "Promise".
"Baby 81" the band's fourth album was released on May 1st, 2007. In June 2008 Nick Jago once again left the touring line-up of the band being replaced by The Raveonettes' touring drummer Leah Shapiro. Nick stated that "...I am fired again and to be honest with you I respect their decision".
However Hayes and Been released a conflicting joint statement that read "Nick won't be joining us for the upcoming European tour, but it's not true that he is fired. We just feel Nick needs time to sort out exactly what he wants right now. His heart and all his energy and attention is on his own solo project and he needs to see that through".
Current:
On January 9, 2013, the band announced via Facebook the name of their seventh album called Specter at the Feast which was released on March 18 in the UK and Europe and on March 19 in USA, Canada and worldwide. It is considered a tribute to Michael Been (The Call), Robert Levon Been's father who died suddenly on tour with BRMC in August 2010.
It received mostly positive reviews; many critics noting that despite the band having been together for some time the album showed a mellower and moodier side with songs such as opener `Firewalker'.
The band made the first single from the record available, a cover of The Call's 1989 hit "Let the Day Begin", for free download on their official website. The decision to record the song was a tribute to Robert's father Michael, who used his experience from The Call to help BRMC before his death in the last couple of years. The single became Q Magazine's track of the day.[6] The band have also released the Let the Day Begin EP for free, consisting of the single and the album track "Returning", made available for streaming on the official website.[7]
On April 8, 2013 it was announced that the band would play at Rock Werchter, the largest rock festival in Belgium.
The band continues to show a willingness to tour despite the obstacles. During the 2013 tour, the organisers of the Harvest festival in Australia decided to abandon the multi-city event, of which BRMC were one of the lead acts, only a few months ahead of the performances. BRMC was the first band to announce it would still visit the country and play its own shows.
Many shows on the 2013/2014 tour have sold out.
BRMC's music/songs have been featured in many films, television programs and video games.

As you slip on your soul
Now you're keeping a hold of something
You've never known
You're tying your mind claiming
Life is your side, yeah
You're dyin' alone,
You should've known it be cold, yeah
Now you know you're alone,
You're a screaming gun, yeah
Gun, yeah, gun, yeah, gun, yeah
Well you hold down the sign
And slipping deeper below
You scream for you purpose
As you're lettin' it go
Now all that you hold is
What's left of your soul
But what's left of your soul
You can't keep a hold
And no soul, yeah, soul, yeah
Now you know you're alone
You're a screaming gun
Yeah, gun, yeah, gun, yeah, gun, yeah
Well you run from your reasons
As you slip on your soul
Now you're keeping a hold of something
You've never known
You're tying your mind claiming
Life is inside, yeah
You're dyin' alone,
You should've known it be cold, yeah
cold yeah cold yeah
Now you know you're alone,
You're a screaming gun, yeah
Gun, yeah, gun, yeah, gun, yeah
The lyrics of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's song "Screaming Gun" seem to convey the idea of someone who is feeling lost, alone, and adrift in a world that they don't fully understand. The song begins with the singer running from their reasons, slipping on their soul, and holding onto something they've never known. They seem to be struggling with an issue in their life, something that they are tying their mind to, but the result is that they are dying alone, cold and isolated from the rest of the world.
Through the lyrics of the song, the singer seems to be losing hold of their sense of identity and purpose, struggling with something that is taking over their life. They scream for their purpose, but they are letting it go, and all that is left is what's left of their soul. However, even that they cannot keep a hold of. The repetition of the phrase "screaming gun" seems to suggest the idea of someone who is at their breaking point, their emotions surging within them and threatening to overwhelm them.
Overall, "Screaming Gun" seems to be a song about the pain of feeling lost, isolated and disconnected. The lyrics, combined with the driving beat of the music, evoke a sense of desperation and turmoil that will resonate with anyone who has ever felt like they were struggling to find their place in the world.

Well you run from your reasons
You avoid facing the truth and reasons behind your actions
As you slip on your soul
As you lose sight of your true self
Now you're keeping a hold of something
You are holding onto something unfamiliar to you
You've never known
Something new and foreign is hard to deal with
You're tying your mind claiming
You're trying to convince yourself
Life is your side, yeah
That life is on your side
You're dyin' alone,
You're dying alone
You should've known it be cold, yeah
You should have known that it would be a lonely and harsh journey
Now you know you're alone,
You have accepted your loneliness
You're a screaming gun, yeah
You are shouting out your pain, just like a gun would fire bullets
Well you hold down the sign
You are hanging on to a sense of purpose
And slipping deeper below
But you are losing that purpose and sinking further into despair
You scream for you purpose
You desperately cry out for a reason to keep going
As you're lettin' it go
But you are slowly losing grip and letting it slip away
Now all that you hold is
Now, all you have left is
What's left of your soul
The remaining bits of your true self
But what's left of your soul
Even that is slipping away
You can't keep a hold
You cannot keep a grip on it
And no soul, yeah, soul, yeah
And soon, you will have lost even that last shred of your soul
Now you know you're alone
At this point, you have fully realized your loneliness
You're a screaming gun
And you are still shouting out your pain, like a loud and desperate gun

There's hardly a bad BRMC-song...the quality of their catalogue is stunning...even these rather unknown songs are good.

To put it simply, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is the Jesus And Mary Chain gone to America! The voice of the singer heavily recalls Jim Reid's!
