The record hit the Dutch[3] and Flemish charts as well, after being an underground hit in Antwerp discothèques. They toured the UK for the first time in 1978, and formed their own TCD label, having a minor hit with "Mind Your Motion".[1] They also backed Dennis Brown when he played live in the UK, and in 1980 their Rastafarian rallying call, "Amigo", was picked up by Ensign Records, and broke into the UK Singles Chart, reaching no. 9. A Dub Album "Ogima" (Amigo spelled backwards), was released in 1981. The follow-up, "Boom Boom" was also a hit, though less successful. An album, Sirens In The City, followed on Ensign the following year. The band released two further albums in 1982 and 1985.
After a ten-year hiatus they released a new EP, World Citizen, on 15 June 2013, with a UK and European Tour to follow. In November 2014, the band embarked on their first USA tour, with dates across California and Texas. The lineup featured original founding members Anthony Brightly, Chris Hanson, Desmond Mahoney and vocalist Jesse Brade. They have been working on a new album, Now And Then, for an official 2015 release on TCD Records.

Black Slate
A Peaceful Demonstration……..
The core members of this magnificent Band of Reggae Scientists, Black Slate, strike again; after forty years in the business.
This time they are leaving their monument set in stone with
A Peaceful Demonstration
Anthony “PureSilk” Brightly (Keyboards), Chris “MusicHouse” Hanson (Lead/Rhythm Guitar) and Desmond “Drummy” Mahoney (Drums/Congo)
They have earned the right to stand amongst the greats in the world of reggae music. Like the female energy that tends and nurtures life, they have developed and nurtured their sound. From a vibe with a unique audio ID that has taken well over forty odd years of research and cultivation, with the help of a group of talented and respected former band members, new members and session musicians who all have played a part in assisting this great seed of musical wealth.
Anthony “PureSilk” Brightly (Keyboards): Backed by a father’s love for music - from jazz to sound systems, groups to recording/producing; the young keyboard player acquired a DNA explosion which ignited his passion for reggae music and the conception of…..
Black Slate
Chris “MusicHouse” Hanson (Lead/Rhythm Guitar): The mature wisdom of this band was a hard working electrician. A young man whose passion for reggae caused him to move in various musical circles until the magic touched him. Eventually Chris joined forces with other great reggae orientated minds and created the ultimate…..
Black Slate
(Named from his former trade)
Desmond “Drummy” Mahoney (Drums/Congo): An engineer with light feet and an excellent tradesman in his field, he was an even greater dancer on the reggae youth scene. To top it off Desmond was a drummer extraordinaire, with a limitless talent aimed at reggae music. These are the skills he brought to the table with a pure love that created the foundation of…..
Black Slate
These three core members are dedicated to reggae music with such passion, that even with the split of the very successful first Black Slate they never gave up.
They stuck it out respectfully:
Anthony opened several booming reggae night clubs. He also records and produces many different artists plus labels. In addition, Anthony has joint entrepreneurial ventures with Chris, his lifelong friend.
Chris’ electrical skills continued in the music business when he created Music House, which gained its own instant fame from cutting dub plates and masters for every genre that required it in the music industry.
Desmond has taught and kept reggae alive in community workshops around the country, developing his skills constantly to greater heights. He also records, produces and works in promotions/showcasing of new talent.
These three core members financed their endeavours throughout forty odd years with the true essence of Black Slate energy vibes, which could only be tapped into by love, True Love.
These three reggae scientists emitted a great devotion while working individually and occasionally crossing paths, but ultimately never forgetting their collective purpose in life…..
Black Slate
They’ve proven this without a doubt in…..
A Peaceful Demonstration
Not forgetting
Black Slate’s most recent gems that the core have added to this
Reggae Force Black Slate:
Colin “Steam-Fish” McNiesh (Bass): With many years of playing experience under his belt which he has shared heartically with…
Black Slate
Jesse “Energy” Brade (vocals) Stage Name J.E.B: Expressing his vocal skills by powering up the musical spine of
Black Slate. Jesse is an industrial power house of energy, stepping rhythmically in the same direction…

of all who are converted along the way by…
