Frozen
Black Sun Aeon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In this cold, calm damnation
Six feet under below the ice
The hell stays still
The hell stays freezing

I don't bleed
Frozen blood doesn't flow
Death came for me this winter
Death, white as snow

I don't feel
Ice covered my soul
My breathe was taken
My skin turned cold

Since daylight died
In darkness lay the shadows of the sun
The only shine comes from the burning sky
Northern light, shed your fire

I don't bleed
Frozen blood doesn't flow
Death came for me this winter
Death, white as snow

I don't feel
Ice covered my soul
My breathe was taken
My skin turned cold

Into the dark
Where you can't see
But I breathe free
I want you to leave me

Into the dark
I want you to lead me

Winter light
You never saw me

Overall Meaning

These lyrics appear to be describing a dark and dispassionate state of being. The singer has metaphorically died and is now buried beneath six feet of ice. The world around them is described as hellishly cold and still, with only the Northern lights offering any illumination. The singer claims to be unable to bleed or feel anything, as though their very soul has been frozen over. Death has come for them in the form of a white figure, resembling the snow which covers the landscape.

The imagery in the lyrics is bleak and oppressive, with the darkness and coldness of the world being the dominant themes. The singer seems to be resigned to their fate, seeking only to be left alone in the darkness. It's unclear whether their physical death has caused this spiritual separation or if the state of their soul has led to their physical demise. In either case, the sense of isolation and despair is palpable.

Overall, the lyrics seem to be exploring the idea of death and the afterlife, with a focus on the emotional experience of having one's soul frozen over. The idea of being buried under ice also suggests a sense of being trapped or suffocated, unable to escape from one's own death.

There is a case to be made here; no need to be in cold, frozen place to enjoy the full magnitude of this song. Listening to this song on an early morning, just when the sun rises and the atmosphere is dense with light frost and everything is quiet ans still. The effect of pale light, light frost and total stillness and tranquility works wonders with the music. Then again, perhaps, in all its hardness, this music was designed to interact with the aethereal and the fragile of this world.
