Hit The Lights
Black Tide Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We're gonna kick some ass tonight
We got the metal madness
When our fans start screaming it's right
Well alright, yeah
When we start to rock we never stop again
[Chorus]
Hit the lights
Hit the lights
You know our fans are insane
We are gonna blow this place away
With volume higher than anything today
The only way, yeah
When we start to rock we never will stop again
[Chorus]
With all out screaming
We are gonna rip right through your brain
We got the lethal power
It is causing you sweet pain
Oh sweet pain, yeah
When we start to rock we never stop again
[Chorus]
The opening lyrics to this song, "No life 'til leather, we're gonna kick some ass tonight," set the tone for the musical experience the listener is about to have. The band is ready to take over the stage and perform with such intense energy that nothing else matters. When the fans start screaming, it's a signal that the band is doing what they do best – playing music that makes people feel alive. The sense of camaraderie between the band and their fans is palpable, and the lyrics emphasize how important this connection is to both parties.
As the song progresses, the chorus repeats the phrase, "Hit the lights," which is a nod to the stage crew. In the early days of heavy metal, when bands would play in small clubs or venues, there was often only one person in charge of the lights. This person would control the lighting to emphasize certain parts of the song or to create a specific mood. When the band shouted "hit the lights," they were telling the lighting person to turn the lights off, signaling that it was time to start the show. The chorus is also a call to arms for the band's fans, inviting them to join in on the experience and to live in the moment.
The final verse of the song, "With all out screaming, we are gonna rip right through your brain," embodies the visceral nature of heavy metal music. The lyrics suggest that the music itself is powerful enough to affect the listener on a physical level. The idea of causing "sweet pain" with powerful music is a common theme in heavy metal and speaks to the genre's rebellious nature. Overall, the song encourages listeners to let go of their inhibitions and join in on the frenzied, energetic performance that the band is providing.

wow. I think I've just been sold that Black Tide is an awesome band. It's nice to hear a metal vocalist that's actually, well, vocalizing instead of screaming Personally, I think they chose a very intelligent direction with this cover, while they toned down the "agression" they made up for it by adding more melodies.which I think worked GREAT

It's refreshing to hear a Metallica cover from a band I've never heard of where the singer DOESN'T Cookie Monster the lyrics. Seriously, that shit is unbelievably irritating. I also like that, instead of aping the solo, or avoiding it altogether, both likely done out of a heavily misguided respect for the originals, these guys actually put in a whole new one. I like that. They took the old riff, and used it to show what they could do, and how they'd do it. I really appreciate the effort.

This is a pretty good cover. And like they said before, Black Tide is not trying to top Metallica, I guess they liked the song and adapted it to their own style. Personally I really like it.

At 3:00 the guitar sounds similar to the original. I like how they threw that in there to bring back some nostalgia
