Blackberry Smoke Lyrics

I won't move from where I stand
It's a heavy burden to bear
I've earned every scar I wear
I feel no shame it's just more and more
Of the same
We all live and die
Like an arrow we will fly
Some stay low and some get high
Run your fingers over the flame
That's about as close as you came
It's a narrow way after all
Waitin' for the hammer to fall
I see no end here we go
Again and again
We all live and die
Time will always roll on by
Like an arrow we will fly
Some stay low and some get high
Yea we try and try I can't find
The light in the sky
The lyrics to Blackberry Smoke's song "Like an Arrow" seem to explore the idea of perseverance in the face of hardship. The opening lines suggest a challenge or a confrontation with someone, with the singer refusing to budge from where they stand. The metaphor of scars implies that they have faced significant obstacles before, and that their strength comes from having overcome them. The repetition of "more and more of the same" suggests a sense of weariness, but also a determination to keep going.
The second verse introduces the broader theme of mortality, with the line "We all live and die." However, the tone remains defiant, with the metaphor of an arrow flying indicating that life is something to be experienced fully and passionately, whether one stays "low" or "gets high." The image of running one's fingers over a flame suggests recklessness or a willingness to take risks, which is balanced by the caution of waiting for the "hammer to fall."
Overall, the song seems to suggest that life is a delicate balancing act between taking chances and being prepared for whatever comes next. The repetition of "again and again" in the final lines could indicate a sense of fatigue, but it could also suggest a cyclical nature to life, with each challenge building on the last and leading to new growth.
