Sunrise In Texas
Blackberry Smoke Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Somebody somewhere's waking up
With a face full of tears
Cuz everything to say has been said
There's a man in a cell staring at the walls all around
Swears somebody done put the devil in his head

There's a world goin' on
Outside the world that I'm in
I got sunrise in Texas again

Well I feel pretty good here laying in this bed
In some old town I swear to God I don't know where
Share a smile with a woman Lord I'd love to share more
I guess it's always the same old game of truth or dare

There's a world goin' on
Outside the world that I'm in
I got sunrise in Texas again

There's a young girl on the street
Ain't got no shoes on her feet
Don't know where she's gonna find her next meal
There's an old man wearing rags and he screams
"You gotta love the ones you hate" cuz the end is near
Now's the time

There's a world goin' on

Outside the world that I'm in
I got sunrise in Texas again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Blackberry Smoke's song "Sunrise In Texas" paint a vivid picture of people from different walks of life all experiencing the same feelings of hopelessness and confusion in the world around them. The first verse introduces us to two individuals: someone who's cried themselves to sleep with no words left to say, and a man who's been driven to the brink of insanity by his surroundings. Despite the pain that these individuals are feeling, the singer emphasizes that there's a beautiful world outside of their struggles, and that the sun continues to rise and fall, bringing a glimmer of hope.

The second verse presents another individual who's content with their current circumstances, but also aware that there's more to life than what meets the eye. The singer shares a moment with a woman, but acknowledges that the dynamic between them is uncertain, and that the truth of their connection could change at any moment. In the bridge, we see two more people who are enduring difficult circumstances - a young girl with no shoes and an old man who's shouting about love and the impending end of the world. The singer encourages us to live in the present moment, and to appreciate the beauty of life despite its challenges.

Overall, "Sunrise In Texas" is a poignant reminder that there's more to life than what we see at face value. By highlighting the struggles and hopes of different people, the song encourages us all to appreciate the beauty of each new day, and to find hope in even the darkest of moments.

I'm sure Duane Allman and the other founding fathers of the Southern Rock sound are very proud of BBS. Smoke has remained true to their roots. Keep supporting this band, they deserve so much more attention than they are receiving from the music industry.

Charlie lived down the street from my best friend for years... heard him fooling with this song over 10 years ago in his living room. proud of those guys. I know where Charlie and Paul came from. played the same dead end local dives as these guys.. great to see them prove to everyone that rock isn't dead
