Blackberry Wednesday’s (the name refers to the wine, not the smart phone) founding member and lead vocalist Rodney Ryan Henson fondly recalls how his father’s musical influences were passed down naturally. The elder Henson, also a singer-songwriter, appreciated a wide array of artists, and the family had a deep appreciation for soulful Memphis natives like The Staple Singers, Isaac Hayes, Sam & Dave and Aretha Franklin. “There really is so much history, and I just try to take from all of it,” explains Rod, who also plays piano and keyboard for the band. Lead guitarist and backup singer Sir Lucien Croy writes a lot of the band’s material, and explains that all members have input in the final songs.
The men of Blackberry Wednesday bring together talent on many levels. Percussionist David Wade . Bassist Daniel Dwight stays involved in the intense songwriting process. Their newest member, guitarist Chris “Batman” Leerskov, writes and plays music without the ability to read it.
Blackberry Wednesday’s cross-genre style unites strong global influences from all the players, creating a club-savvy, edgy American rock flavor that still maintains a radio-friendly vibe. It sounds like a mouthful, but how else can you mash up the spirit of AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, Jerry Lee Lewis, Otis Redding, Tommy Lee and Rusty Cooper without being strange in the most pleasant, familiar way possible? Nobody’s afraid to pull influences from the wildest spots.
With videos for the singles “Hey I” and “Save Us From Ourselves Remix” on the way, and airplay on a smattering of commercial radio stations, Blackberry Wednesday is prepared for their journey to the top.
You're the One
Blackberry Wednesday Lyrics

And if you're looking for love, then come and get it
I wonder where you are, another falling star
Do you wanna stay with me or do you wanna live apart
I push too hard, do I make you break
Maybe you're for real or maybe you're fake
Or
Maybe you're the one, that gets me
Maybe in your head, out of my bed
It's so hard to achieve
And if it was life, I don't wanna go
If it's not love, you already know
Saying I'm fine is your way of not talking to me, you're not talking to me
I see something burning in your eyes, and I hope it's not the start of lies
What did I do to make you cry, don't say I'm fine
And I've seen you up, I've seen you through
Every part of me wants to be next to you
I think too much, it's not my luck
You say you're ok, then you push me away
Maybe you're the one, that gets me
Maybe it's what we are, but can't see
Maybe in your head, out of my bed
It's so hard to achieve
And if it was life, I don't wanna go
If it's not love, you already know
Saying I'm fine is your way of not talking to me yeah
Whoa, I reach out to you and you're pushing me back
Whoa, you're on the attack, you're on the attack
Maybe you're the one, that gets me
Maybe it's what we are, but can't see
Maybe in your head, out of my bed
It's so hard to achieve
And if it was life, I don't wanna go
If it's not love, you already know
Saying I'm fine is your way of not talking to me yeah, you're not talking to me
You're not talking to me
The song "You're the One" by Blackberry Wednesday explores the complex dynamics of a romantic relationship. The singer is struggling to connect with their partner who never gives them enough credit and pushes them away when they try to communicate. The lyrics express the singer's frustration and confusion about the relationship. They wonder if their partner is for real or fake and if they truly want to be with them. The chorus repeats the line "Maybe you're the one that gets me" and suggests that the two may be meant to be together, but something is holding them back.
The song captures the ambivalence of a relationship where the partners might not be sure if their love is real and if they can make it work. The singer is asking for honesty and communication, but their partner is avoiding the conversation by saying "I'm fine." The lines "Whoa, you're on the attack, you're on the attack" are a powerful metaphor for the destructive patterns that can develop in relationships. Overall, the song is a poignant portrayal of the challenges of love and the delicate balance between holding on and letting go.

In the tiny town where I come from
You grew up doing what your daddy does
And you don't ask questions you do it just because
You don't climb to high or dream too much
With a whole lot of work and a little bit of luck
You can wind up right back where your daddy was
This little bitty town it ain't nothing new
We all stick around 'cause they all tell us too
Swallow your pride just to make your family proud
If I didn't think that it would shut the whole place down
I'd ride my pony right out of this one horse town
Yeah this one horse town
I'm an old married man at the age of twenty three
Got two little boys on the baseball team
And that might be their only ticket out
All they got is a worn out name
And a daddy that could've gone all the way
But I hung my saddle up and I settled down
This little bitty town, oh it ain't nothing new
We all stick around 'cause they all tell us too
Swallow your pride just to make your family proud
If I didn't think that it would shut the whole place down
I'd ride my pony right out of this one horse town
Yeah this one horse town
Oh yeah
This little bitty town, oh yeah it ain't nothing new
We all stick around 'cause they all tell us too
Swallow your pride just to keep your family proud
If I didn't think that it would shut the whole thing down
I'd saddle that one horse and ride it right out of this town.

As an older guy, I thought Southern Rock was dead. I recently discovered this band, and it brought tears to my eyes and a new faith in humanity. They are so good.
@markpukey8
Yeah, me too. Recently found a whole bunch of music that I'd call Southern Rock.
I'm not a big fan of most modern Country Music. Just as boring as most pop music in any other genre. But I know what I like, and these guys, Dead South, Devil Makes Three and several other bands are hitting it for me as "southern rock" these days. And Dead South is freaking CANADIAN! Good is good no matter where it comes from!

Welcome aboard folks. I'm a relative newbie as I only found the 3 - 4 years ago. Now take the next step to pure addiction & see them in concert. Like sticking a needle in your arm.
