F… Read Full Bio ↴Sleaze Rock / Glam Metal band from Los Angeles, California (USA).
Formed at the beginning of the 1990's out of members of Filthy Rittz, Blackboard Jungle became one of the most talked about bands on California's Sunset Strip rock scene. The lineup at this point consisted of Kenny Price (Vocals), Dave Zink (Guitars), Britt (Bass), and Joel Faith (Drums). The band garnered the attention of Faster Pussycat's Brent Muscat, who produced some of the band's early recordings, and helped them begin to make headway on the scene. Blackboard Jungle would later tour with Faster Pussycat and open for them on a tour a few years later.
1992 saw the band release their debut album "I Like It Alot" on Church Records, and also opened the door for the band to play in Japan for an eager audience. By 1994, Joel Faith had left as drummer and was replaced by Brett Bradshaw (Faster Pussycat) while the band recorded additional demos. Some of these sessions were released as singles, and as part of compilation albums featuring various artists. In 1995, Joel Faith had rejoined the band and guitarist Dave Zink had left. The band recruited Death Valley Jupiter guitarist Steve Olivero to fill the opening and recorded a new album titled "Last... But Not Lost." These songs had a slightly darker and more alternative feel to them compared to the "I Like It Alot" album from a few years prior. The band broke up soon after, with each member pursuing different musical interests for a time.
In the early 2000's, Blackboard Jungle reunited with all 4 original members (Kenny, Britt, Dave, & Joel) to play a reunion show on their home turf in Hollywood. The show was a success and the band continues to play annual reunion shows to this day. These shows have helped create a resurgence of interest in the late 80's/early 90's Sunset Strip music scene due to the band sharing the stage with other notable bands from the scene, also reunited, including Swingin' Thing, Glamour Punks, Fizzy Bangers, Imagine World Peace, and more.
GENERATION
Blackboard Jungle Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The times, the times they do a-change
Our eyes - Are glued to T.V. screens
We lost the thrill for everything
Instead of pushing forward making a new move
You just sit, bitch there's nothing to do
That's why we...
Reminisce bout better times
Bored to death with this way of life
Nothing to do but lose your head
In a generation bored to death
We're all bored to death
For better - For better, for better times we pray
As for now let's ppaint our world gray
We sit - We sit and kill the times
Held captive to this state of mind
Instead of pushing forward making a new move
You just sit, bitch there's nothing to do
That's why we...
-CHORUS-
SPOKEN: Is there any hope for a generation bored to death
-CHORUS 3x-
We're all bored to death
The Blackboard Jungle's song Generation talks about how bored and unsatisfied the younger generation of society is. The lyrics start by criticizing the older generation who keeps telling stories about the good old days, but the reality is that the times have changed drastically. The younger generation is stuck in the present, their eyes glued to TV screens, lacking the drive to progress and make a new move. Instead, all they do is complain, sit and do nothing, feeling hopeless and uninterested.
The chorus repeats multiple times, highlighting the boredom and dissatisfaction felt by the younger generation. They reminisce about better times but are now bored to death with their way of living. There seems to be no escape from the dull reality they face, and they are all collectively bored to death. The spoken line "Is there any hope for a generation bored to death?" emphasizes the despair felt by the younger generation, questioning whether there is any way out of their situation.

This is what Bang Tango/Asphalt Ballet/all the wannabe Cult bands were trying for. Would’ve been a hit single at any point ‘91-‘93. Too bad didn’t get major deal bc the base line on this song would be epic w better production
