Me & My Shadow
Blackmail Lyrics

That's going round this place
Too dark to see the heathen
In my face
I am not the same
It's shaking me again
A colour so divine
In their minds
The devil felt ashamed
I never thought he would
I saw him keep on practicing
'Til this endless morning ends
He's lost the silver spoon
He kept it in his hand
I think he's leaving soon
Me and my shadow shaped
Today we take the way to the moon
The lyrics of Blackmail's song Me & My Shadow are filled with imaginative and enigmatic references that can be interpreted in many ways. The opening lines, "It started with a haze, that's going round this place, too dark to see the heathen in my face," portrays a dense and overwhelming atmosphere that surrounds the singer. It hints towards a sense of confusion that is present everywhere. As the song progresses, the lyrics suggest that the singer is going through some profound internal changes that are manifesting themselves in tangible ways. "I am not the same, it's shaking me again, a color so divine, oh God you've come to see what your kids have left in their minds," speaks about the singer's changed state of being and the profound impact it has had on him.
The lyrics also suggest that there is an element of the supernatural that is at work here. The chorus of the song speaks about the devil feeling ashamed, and the singer seeing him practicing till the wee hours of the morning. The devil is a metaphorical representation of the dark forces, and in the context of this song, it seems that the singer has conquered them. The last few lines, "He's lost the silver spoon he kept it in his hand, I think he's leaving soon, me, and my shadow shaped, today we take the way to the moon," seem to convey a sense of triumph and a newfound sense of freedom.
