Blackmail Lyrics

For what I have become
I laughed until the walls fell
To recognize the sun
You say I’m unforgiven
For whatever I have done
And now you tell me
Take it from tomorrow
Over, say it’s never over
Unless it’s gone tomorrow
today I wasn’t evil
Despite all they have done
I laughed until the walls came down
With everything you’ve done
never say it’s not forever
Take it from tomorrow
Over, say it’s never over
Unless it’s gone tomorrow
You say you’re suffering
The lyrics to Blackmail's song Never Forever delve into themes of self-reflection, forgiveness, and the impermanence of life. The singer acknowledges that they have gone through a change or transformation, but contend that they were not inherently evil. They find joy and laughter in the midst of changes, and despite being judged by others for their actions, they seek forgiveness. The chorus serves as a reminder to appreciate the present moment, to not take anything for granted, and to recognize that life is fleeting. The repetition of "never say it's not forever/take it from tomorrow/over, say it's never over/unless it's gone tomorrow" reflects the idea that one should not make assumptions about the future or cling onto the idea of permanence, since everything is subject to change.
The lines "You say I'm unforgiven/For whatever I have done/And now you tell me/never say it's not forever" suggest that there may be a disconnect between the singer and the person they are addressing. Perhaps the other person has condemned the singer for their past actions and refuses to forgive them, or they are hesitant to commit to anything long-term. The singer's response is to live in the moment, to enjoy life despite the judgment of others, and to remind them that nothing is truly permanent. The final line, "You say you're suffering," could be interpreted in several ways - either as an acknowledgement of the other person's pain, or as a dig at their own suffering being dismissed by the other.
