Oh Well
Bladee Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Drain crusade on a mission
If I′m good will I one day be lifted?
Oh damn, almost thought I was different
Oh well, play the cards that I'm given

Oh well, play the cards that I′m given
Oh well, play the cards that I'm given
Oh well, play the cards that I'm given
Oh well, oh well, oh well

Uh, uh, tryna hang man
Uh, uh, you can′t hang man
Uh, uh, it′s a saint, yeah
Play the cards that I'm given
Cut the past ties (cut, yeah, cut)
At the top it′s lonely
D9 got a plan
Three towers but it's in the sand
Trash star had to make my way
Trash island, I can′t get away

Drain crusade on a mission
If I'm good will I one day be lifted
Oh damn, almost thought I was different
Oh well, play the cards that I′m given

Oh well, play the cards that I'm given
Oh well, play the cards that I'm given
Oh well, play the cards that I′m given
Oh well, oh well, oh well

Oh well, play the cards that I′m given
Oh well, play the cards that I'm given
Oh well, play the cards that I′m given
Oh well, oh well, oh well

New hopes, new dreams
There can only be one
It's me (oh well, play the cards that I′m given)
Oh well, play the cards that I'm given
Oh well, play the cards that I′m given

Oh well, play the cards that I'm given
Oh well, oh well

Overall Meaning

Bladee’s “Oh Well” is a melancholic track that speaks about accepting his life as it is. In the first stanza, he says that he is on a mission to save the soul of the youth with his music, but he wonders if he will ever be recognized for his work. He then realizes that he is not any different from the people who do not get recognition for their work, and he must accept the cards he is given and play with them. The chorus repeats this message and further emphasizes the importance of accepting one’s life.

In the second stanza, Bladee encourages his listeners to let go of the past and make their way to the top. He then talks about D9, possibly referring to his label Drain Gang, and how they have a plan in place. He also mentions “three towers, but it's in the sand,” which could be a metaphor for life's fragility and the fact that nothing lasts forever. He then speaks about the Trash Star and Island, both of which could be metaphors for the struggles and difficulties that life throws one’s way.

Finally, in the last few lines, Bladee sings about how there can only be one person who can hope and dream of a better future, and it is him. He understands that life is not always easy, but he has to keep moving forward and play the game with the cards he is given. In summary, the song is about accepting one's life and moving forward, no matter how difficult it might be.
