Blanks 77 was conceived by vocalist Mike Blank and drummer Chad 10 Seconds during jam sessions at rock club, The Pipeline. Guitarist Renee Wasted was added after she replied to an ad placed in a local music newspaper. Blanks 77 has gone through three bass players since its inception. Original bassist Brendan, who had previously played with the Connecticut-based group, Devestation, was replaced by Geoff, who gave way to Timm "T.J." Blank, formerly the lead singer and guitarist for The Broken Heroes, in 1995.
Blanks 77's debut album, "Killer Blanks", was released in Germany in 1995 and in the United States the following year. Their second album, "Tanked And Pogoed", followed in 1997.
Just Another

On the dotted line
His daddy knew what was best for him
He told him he'd be fine
But he had his doubts
What's life all about
What have I done
He was taught to kill and how to be a man
How to kill the commies out in Iran
Now your time has come, boy
You have passed the test
Here's your tag and #
Go and kill the best
He was just a statistic
Just another killing machine
No one cared if he lived and died
He was just part of the scheme
Johnny was sent to fight a war
He never came back
They said he was M.I.A
Caught under attack
Blanks 77's "Just Another Number" is a song that reflects on the experiences of Johnny, who signs up for military service because of his father's expectations, despite his reluctance to do so. The lyrics suggest that Johnny was trained to be a killing machine and that he had to fight in a war that he didn't understand or care about. He becomes a statistic, just another number, who is expected to fight and possibly die in the battle. The song speaks about the dehumanizing effects of war, where soldiers are merely pawns in a larger political game.
The first verse of the song is about Johnny's signing up for the military, despite his doubts about what life is all about. The second verse speaks of his training, where he is taught to kill and how to be a man, instilling in him a sense of duty to kill the "commies out in Iran." The third verse is about Johnny's deployment, where he is given a tag and a number and sent to fight, becoming just another killing machine. The final verse mentions Johnny's fate, where he is either killed or missing in action, highlighting the disregard that the system has for the soldiers who fought in the war.
The song highlights the devastating effects of war on soldiers' lives, the impact of their training and deployment, and how they are often forgotten and dehumanized by the larger system. The chorus, with the repeated phrase "just another number," underscores this point, suggesting that the soldiers are reduced to mere statistics by those in charge.
