Bleachers' debut album Strange Desire was released July 10, 2014, from RCA Records. Variance Magazine called the single "Rollercoaster" a "brilliant summer anthem." Bleachers went on their debut Come Alive! tour, which features Night Terrors of 1927 and Joywave as opening acts, from March to April 2015. From there, they went on the Strange Desire World Tour from July to November of that same year. They juggled this with the Charli and Jack Do America Tour, a tour co-headlined by Bleachers and Charli XCX.
Bleachers' second album Gone Now was released June 2, 2017. Its lead single "Don't Take the Money" has been described by Atwood Magazine as "an epic uplifting pop-rock anthem ultimately about how when love is real, its worth everything that comes along with it". In celebration of the album release, he brought his childhood bedroom on tour with him. He had it dismantled and rebuilt inside of a portable trailer. During May and June concerts, fans could enter the "moving, living art exhibit" and listen to the album prior to its official release. Antonoff explained in a press release, saying "when I thought about where this album was coming from and what itβs kissing goodbye I thought of this room. I wished I could play the album for people who care about Bleachers in this space that it is coming from and leaving." The band was on its Gone Now Era: Part 1 tour from September to November 2017. The tour featured Tove Stryke, Bishop Briggs, and Tangerine as openers.
In September 2017, Bleachers performed on MTV Unplugged at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The live session was later released as an album, also entitled MTV Unplugged. The album features 11 tracks from both Gone Now and Strange Desire and was released November 10, 2017. Antonoff produced the soundtrack of Love, Simon, released on March 16, 2018. He contributed five songs, with four being credited to Bleachersβ"Alfie's Song (Not So Typical Love Song)", "Rollercoaster", "Keeping a Secret", and "Wild Heart"β and one credited to his real name, a duet with MΓ titled "Never Fall in Love". Throughout 2019, Bleachers released the third volume of Terrible Thrills in a series of four vinyl records, each featuring covers of songs from Gone Now by female artists as well as new demos by Bleachers.
In late 2019, Antonoff began recording the third Bleachers album. During this time the band embarked on a three-day "mini-tour" called the "I Love Making This Album but I'm Also Losing My Mind in Here & Need to Come Out and Play" Tour. On January 6, 2020, Antonoff announced on Twitter that a new Bleachers album would come within the year. In May, Bleachers was featured on Carly Rae Jepsen's song "Comeback" which was the first official release of the band in nearly two years. On the Bleachers Twitter account, a song called "Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night" has been teased for months, and starting on November 14, 2020, a phone tree was set up for fans to call to hear clips from the song.
On November 16, 2020, Bleachers released the first two singles from Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night, "45" and "Chinatown", the latter featuring Bruce Springsteen. The same day it was announced that the album will be released in 2021. "Stop Making This Hurt", the third single, was released on May 18, 2021. Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night is scheduled for release on July 30.

Bleachers Lyrics

It's too late?
Who's gonna tell you things
Ain't so great?
You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong, oh
Who's gonna drive you home
Who's gonna pick you up when you fall?
Who's gonna hang it up when you call?
Who's gonna pay attention to your dreams?
And who's gonna plug their ears when you scream? Oh
You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home?
Oh, who's gonna drive you home?
When you shake?
When you break?
Oh, who's gonna drive you home tonight?
Who's gonna drive you home tonight?
Ah, who's gonna
Who's gonna?
Who's gonna?
Who's gonna?
The lyrics to Bleachers' song "Drive" explore feelings of uncertainty, vulnerability, and the need for support in various aspects of life. The opening lines, "Who's gonna tell you when it's too late? / Who's gonna tell you things ain't so great?" depict the absence of someone who could offer guidance or call attention to potential problems. The repetition of "Who's gonna drive you home tonight?" acts as a metaphor for needing someone to provide emotional support or guidance during difficult times.
The following verses expand on the idea of needing someone to be there for you. The lines "Who's gonna pick you up when you fall? / Who's gonna hang it up when you call?" highlight the need for someone to be there in times of failure or distress, someone who is willing to listen to your problems and pay attention to your dreams. The question "Who's gonna plug their ears when you scream?" suggests that the person described in the song is someone who can handle your emotions and pain without turning away.
Overall, the lyrics of "Drive" convey a sense of longing for emotional support and someone who can be there through thick and thin. The repeated questioning of "Who's gonna drive you home?" emphasizes the uncertainty and vulnerability that comes with not having someone reliable to lean on in times of need.

Count the steps around the park
Consider drinkin' in the yard
Hang the words of a perfect stranger
In the hallways of my heart
'Cause all the blessings are somebody else's
They're flowers in my neighbor's pot
I'm torn exactly into two pieces
One who wants you and one who's gone dark
But I'm still inside
Your fast machine
Always holding your love supreme
Old 45's
Spinnin' out of time
But honey, I'm still on your side
Are my hopes finally gonna waste me?
Am I the worst compass I could know?
I took the bus across the bridge
Sold my bedroom from my home
Maybe it's the east coast in the music
Or the endless road from the past
But while you're praying at the 90s
They're carving up anything that lasts
But I'm still inside
Your fast machine
Always holding your love supreme
Old 45's
Spinnin' out of time
But honey, I'm still on your side
Now you're just the stranger that I know best
Now you're just the stranger in our bed
Now I'm just the stranger that you know best
There ain't no book that I can live by
Just these naggings I can't shake
A hum coming from the basement
A little cryin' out for cryin' out's sake
But if I can learn to love your shadow
When your shadow hits the light
And there ain't no trace of what we've been through
Then I'll shout it 'til the day that I die
Hey, I'm still inside
Your fast machine
I'm always holding your love supreme
Old 45's
Spinnin' out of time
But honey, I'm still on your side
Honey, I'm still on your side

jack is my best kept secret. the kind of under appreciated artist you wish more people would notice, but also not because it might ruin the intimacy of the lyrics when you listen to his music. because it feels like they are written especially for you, and you are the only person he is singing to. i still ask EVERYONE i meet to listen to bleachers and their instant love for his sound is undeniable. so much love for this dude.

I heard this song (studio version) for the first time this week, while sitting in a doctor's office, and I immediately was mesmerized. I Googled the lyrics to find out who performed it. I had never heard of Jack Antonoff before (don't judge me, I'm 53 years old, lol). It's such a powerful, bittersweet song. This live performance was an especially good arrangement. I'm a newfound fan.

This is one of the best songs Jack has ever written. And Jack has written folklore, NFR, and melodrama.
