1) In the midst of an incredibly prolific time for the band Lycia during the mid-1990s, bandleader Mike Van Portfleet and fellow member David Galas found time to create a side project, Bleak, to focus on more aggressive music than they normally produced in their main group. One full-length album, titled "Vane", was released in 1995.
2) Formed in Finland's rock capital Rovaniemi in 1997, Bleak stuck strictly to grunge during the first years of its career. The new millennium saw the band take a short breather, but Bleak regrouped in 2002, armed with a new, broader musical outlook. Today, the band's music is a reflection of the eternally, well, bleak sonic frost of these five northern men, coated with an earthy penchant for melody, all served continental style. Vocalist/songwriter Caleb's exceptional voice is the icing on the cake.
The band worked hard on a grass roots level, and their self-financed single 'Crossword' was in rotation at several rock radio stations. Radio airplay and live performances started to build a solid fanbase steadily. Asko Kallonen and Niko Nordström from Helsinki Music Company took an interest in the band and soon signed Bleak. The first fruits of the new partnership came in the form of the single 'Play', which debuted on the official Finnish singles chart at number 2. The song also found its way to the playlists of both Radio City and YleX.
Bleak has also gigged regularly. Support from Ville and Mige from HIM has given the band a great shove forward, and Bleak has performed as HIM's opening act twice. The new single 'What You Are' will be released on April 12th, and is already in rotation at Radio City and YleX. Bleak's debut album '[Burns Inside]' was released on May 17th 2006. Unfortunately, the band split up in February 2009, to allow its different members to work on their other projects. Nevertheless, Caleb "adopted" all of the old Bleak songs -as well as the new ones from the album the band had been working on- and will continue to play them with his new band, Fireal.

3) Bleak is ambient / atmospheric / raw black metal with vocals reminiscent of early Burzum, formed in 2001 in Chico, California, United States.
For the most part, all recordings have been done using cheap equipment, and pirated software. the kind founders of metalhordes helped with the recording of the vocals in the two most recent works, allowing sole member, Anthony, to make use of California State University, Chico's recording arts equipment.
Bleak is not about being grim, nekro, ns, kvlt or any other trends that affected teens may be buying into within the different sub genres of black metal. Bleak is about despair, depression, hopelessness, etc. Bleak is about the realization of inevitable death, loss of all that is valued, and the absolute, inavoidable failure of mankind, and all that mankind has created. 4) Bleak is the greatest death blues band this side of the Delta. Imagine a noise that can melt through bank vaults. Throw in a wall shattering live show. Add twisted humour and a dash of voodoo. What do you get? Heavy, brutal, primal, direct, and yet sublimely beautiful, this band drags you by your throat from the plantations of the 1860s Deep South via the jails and chain gangs of the Great Depression and throws you face down among burning rubble and charred corpses of the Rhythm Night Club, Natchez Mississippi.
These guys tried to sell their souls to the devil at the crossroads. He couldn’t afford them, so they are going to give you a piece for free instead. BLEAK are Tim - the highs; Rach - the lows; Rich - the sighs; Yvonne - the blows; Anton - the blues...

To see inside
Couldn't read it right
There, between the lines
Behind those shiny eyes
She hides in the lights
Well, I'll reside in the night
And it burns inside
When I turn out the lights
I could burst out crying
for your lies
How I've tried
I've fallen for the skies
So why should I try to smile
I'm trying to cry. How can I rise?
When it burns inside
When I turn out the lights
I could burst out crying
for your words were all lies
Too late
(All the things you said to me)
(All the things you said to me)
(All the things you said to me)
Coz it burns inside
When I turn out the lights
Oh, I could burst out crying
for your words were all lies
Yeah, it burns inside
Now it's too late, and now you say
You're sorry but that won't do.
It's too late, and now you say you're sorry
But that won't do, for you...
All the things you said to me
All the things you said to me
All the things you said to me
All the things you said...
The lyrics to Bleak's song "Burn" convey a sense of betrayal and heartbreak. The singer expresses their frustration and disappointment towards someone who has deceived them. The opening lines, "Why too blind to see inside, couldn't read it right, there between the lines," suggest that the singer was unable to discern the true intentions or emotions of the person in question. The phrase "between the lines" implies that there were subtle hints or indications of the deception, but the singer failed to perceive them.
The subsequent lines, "Behind those shiny eyes, she hides in the lights, well, I'll reside in the night with my silent cries when 'Angels' have all died," depict the singer's struggle to cope with the pain caused by the betrayal. The reference to "shiny eyes" suggests that the person presented a charming or attractive facade, while they concealed their true self. The mention of "Angels" could symbolize trust or innocence, and the phrase "when 'Angels' have all died" signifies the loss of faith or belief in the goodness of others.
The chorus, "And it burns inside when I turn out the lights, I could burst out crying for your lies," reveals the intense emotional turmoil the singer experiences when left alone in the darkness. The act of turning out the lights metaphorically represents the singer's attempt to escape the painful reality but finds themselves consumed by sorrow. The repeated mention of crying and the reference to "your lies" highlight the profound impact of the betrayal.
The lyrics progress to express the singer's resignation and refusal to continue pretending. Lines such as "How I've tried, I've fallen for the skies, so why should I try to smile, I'm trying to cry. How can I rise?" convey the singer's struggle to find happiness or optimism in the face of deception. The use of juxtaposition, where falling for the skies implies a sense of hope or aspiration, further emphasizes the contrast and disappointment felt.
The song concludes with the acknowledgment that it is now too late for apologies or regrets to rectify the damage caused. The repetition of "All the things you said to me" reflects the lingering impact of the hurtful words or actions. Ultimately, "Burn" captures the complex emotions and aftermath of betrayal, illustrating the pain, confusion, and longing for resolution.

Why too blind
Why am I so unaware
To see inside
To understand what's really happening
Couldn't read it right
Couldn't interpret the situation correctly
There, between the lines
The truth lies hidden in the subtext
Behind those shiny eyes
Behind her seemingly happy demeanor
She hides in the lights
She conceals her true self in the spotlight
Well, I'll reside in the night
I choose to dwell in darkness
With my silent cries when "Angels" have all died
Expressing my inner pain when all hope is lost
And it burns inside
There is a deep agony within me
When I turn out the lights
When I am left alone in darkness
I could burst out crying
I am filled with overwhelming sadness
for your lies
Because of the falsehoods you told
How I've tried
Despite my efforts
I've fallen for the skies
I have aspired for greatness
So why should I try to smile
So why should I pretend to be happy
I'm trying to cry. How can I rise?
I'm trying to express my pain, how can I find strength?
Too late
It's too far gone
(All the things you said to me)
(All the hurtful things you said to me)
Coz it burns inside
Because it causes intense emotional pain
Oh, I could burst out crying
Oh, I could break down in tears
for your words were all lies
because your words were deceitful
Now it's too late, and now you say
Now the damage is done, and now you claim
You're sorry but that won't do.
You apologize but it's not enough.
It's too late, and now you say you're sorry
It's too late, and now you express regret
But that won't do, for you...
But your apology is insufficient, for you...
All the things you said to me
All the hurtful things you said to me
All the things you said to me
All the hurtful things you said to me
All the things you said to me
All the hurtful things you said to me
All the things you said...
