Melt Down
Blessed Death Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Rays of death beyond our sight
Escape their metal walls
For life we are forbidden
Painful death will have us all
Nuclear reactor
With its human in control
Push the poison slowly
Keep the earth from hot back hoe

Bolts of red hot lightning
Fill the sky in broad daylight
Earth is slowly melting
Tell not if it's day or night
Millions of degrees
Turn solid rock to molten steel
Glowing red hot rivers
Turn human lives to earth's last meal
Many billions years
But to the sun not time at all
Inside the sun we'll find ourselves
When man's reign hath to fall

Planet earth lies barren
No life no light
Reactors stand like guardians
For bones in nuclear tombs

Play with fire and you get burned
Predestined hand of doom

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Blessed Death's song "Melt Down" are a warning about the dangers of nuclear technology and the destruction it brings. The first few lines describe the rays of death that go beyond our sight and escape the metal walls around nuclear reactors. The line "for life we are forbidden" implies that the radiation from the reactors makes it impossible for life to exist in their vicinity, and "painful death will have us all" refers to the inevitable destruction and annihilation caused by nuclear radiation.

The second verse describes the earth slowly melting due to the effects of the nuclear reactor. The bolts of red hot lightning filling the sky signify the destructive power of radiation, turning solid rock into molten steel and creating rivers of red-hot lava that consume human lives. The line "inside the sun we'll find ourselves when man's reign hath to fall" refers to the idea that humans will eventually perish due to their irresponsible use of nuclear power, and the earth will eventually be consumed by the sun.

The final verse is a bleak picture of the future, where planet earth is left barren and lifeless, with only the nuclear reactors standing as guardians over the bones of those who perished due to their actions. The line "play with fire and you get burned" sums up the message of the song, warning us of the dangers of reckless use of nuclear power and the predestined hand of doom that awaits us if we continue on this path.
