We
Blindside Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

These streets are as cold and wet
As my eyes, flesh and bones are longing home
I was taken out of context
And to think you had me not speaking for a month or two
But it's not you I know
It's just me waiting
Waiting for the sun to come out
We are to follow
What if I could stand still and get moved

We are to follow
We are nothing running blind
We are to follow
We are so sick of it now
We are to follow
But I'm scared to be left behind
We are to follow
Nothing now

The tv dies more and more for each day
And the beauty of your eyes (in my hand)
Makes the flashing lights behind me on the wall look even more pale
Four o'clock and the sky is getting red
And here I am, just me waiting
Waiting for the sun to come out

I'm throwing myself at you
And I'm holding on for dear life
Can I scream out of tune in this choir
God help me scream

What if I would stand still and get moved
By you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Blindside's "We" are an expression of longing for home, both physically and emotionally. The first stanza sets the scene, describing the cold and wet streets that mirror the singer's own emotional state. He feels out of place and misunderstood, having been taken out of context and left unable to express himself. But he knows it's not the fault of the person he's addressing - he's simply waiting for something to change, for the sun to come out and bring light back into his life.

The chorus repeatedly emphasizes the phrase "we are to follow", suggesting that there is a larger force at work that is guiding the singer's life. He seems both resigned to this fate and frustrated by it, as expressed in the lines "we are nothing running blind / we are so sick of it now". The singer is simultaneously aware of his own powerlessness and yearning for something more.

The rest of the lyrics provide glimpses into the singer's personal life - the TV that dies more and more each day, the beauty of someone's eyes that offer a brief respite from the monotony of daily life. He reaches out to this person, throwing himself at them and holding on for dear life. And yet, he still feels a sense of unease, as expressed in the final line: "What if I would stand still and get moved / By you".

Overall, "We" is a song that grapples with the human desire for both control and connection. The singer is aware of larger forces at work in his life, and yet he still feels the need to scream out of tune in a chaotic choir. The song ultimately expresses a sense of hope that even in the midst of despair, there is still the possibility for light to break through.

1:34 No COMPETENT lawyer told them they couldn't adopt someone over 18!!! Once he was 18 he was legally and adult and did NOT require birth parent nor state permission. Sounds more like they colluded with their lawyers to take advantage of him. This is an outrage!!!

Well said. All they needed to do past 18 is give him sound advice but let him do his own thing legally.

kent Grey

@David Williams ESPECIALLY, given that he's saying up until 6 months ago he thought they had adopted him!

Of course, the son Tuohy Jr. will always love him. He made his childhood so much better and no one can take his experiences away. I'm sure he lived through him going to games, meeting connections, and ladies. His family was already rich so he made more connections already. That family exploited him.

The family exploited him huh? Because they didn't have millions from their businesses before him right? He was living pillar to post. When they took him into their home. But they exploited him.? Wow just wow

Jason Wolfe

How do you know that he was ā€œexploitedā€? Because he said so ?

You can definitely adopt past the age of 18. But either way, the family never shouldā€™ve allowed the movie or the media to claim that they adopted him.
