Aliens Exist
Blink182(블링크 182) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey mom there's something in the backroom
Hope it's not the creatures from above
You used to read me stories
As if my dreams were boring
We all know conspiracies are dumb

What if people knew that these were real
I'd leave my closet door open all night
I know the CIA would say
What you hear is all hearsay
I wish someone would tell me what was right

Up all night long
And there's something very wrong
And I know it must be late
Been gone since yesterday
I'm not like you guys
I'm not like you

I am still a skeptic yes you know me
Been best friends and will be till we die
I got an injection
Of fear from the abduction
My best friend thinks I'm just telling lies
Alright

Up all night long
And there's something very wrong
And I know it must be late
Been gone since yesterday
I'm not like you guys
I'm not like you

Dark and scary, ordinary
Explanation, information
Nice to know ya, paranoia
Where's my mother, biofather

Up all night long
And there's something very wrong
And I know it must be late
Been gone since yesterday

I'm not like you guys
Twelve majestic lies

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Blink182's song "Aliens Exist" suggest a child-like fascination with the possibility of aliens and a desire for someone to confirm the truth. The opening lyrics convey a sense of fear and uncertainty, as the singer wonders whether there could be "creatures from above" lurking in the backroom. The mention of his mother reading him stories adds to the childish tone, but also implies that he has been exposed to fantastical ideas before. The line "We all know conspiracies are dumb" could either be an attempt by the singer to reassure himself or a nod to the societal idea that believing in aliens is a fringe belief.

The rest of the lyrics continue to express a yearning for answers and a sense of otherness compared to "you guys." The use of the phrase "Up all night long" creates a sense of urgency and insomnia, suggesting that the singer's obsession with aliens is keeping him up at night. The repeated line "And I know it must be late / Been gone since yesterday" could either refer to the passage of time as he waits for confirmation of the existence of aliens, or suggest that the singer has lost track of time due to his preoccupation.

The final verse of the song seems to encapsulate the duality of fear and curiosity surrounding the possibility of aliens. The juxtaposition of "Dark and scary, ordinary / Explanation, information" highlights the contrast between the unknown and the desire for concrete answers. The last line, "Twelve majestic lies," could either be a cynical acknowledgement that the truth about aliens may never be known or a defiant assertion that the singer believes in the existence of extraterrestrial life despite the lack of evidence.

You realise that Tom thinks it's all real. He's insane and started a UFO company.

I was born in 1999, the year this album came out. My father loved it and bought it, and it stayed in our home until i grew up and in 2009 this yet was my favourite album. Now in 2021 and almost 2022 it gives me goosebumps remembering my childhood and all those good moments as a kid listening to this album.

Travis is a drum virtuoso
Mark is a solid bass player a strong singer a great songwriter and a funny entertaining frontman
Tom Delonge is a sloppy guitarist and singer with a weird voice
but he's also a MELODIC GENIUS and the beating heart of Blink 182
I don't know what it is but the man has a gift for making beautiful catchy melodies and hooks
