Bloc Party
Bloc Party Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And you're tired of your Mum
And you're tired of your Dad
Got you jumping through hoops
Got you shaving your legs
Let it pass, let it pass, let it pass over you

And you're tired of your face
And you're tired of your nose
Got you jumping through hoops
Got you shaving your legs
Let it pass, let it pass, let it pass over you

And your nose is bleeding
You've been lying to me

There will be no hesitation
There will be no confrontation
There will be no indication
There will be no cause
There will be no exultation
There will be no justification
There will be no way at all

And your nose is bleeding
You've been lying to me

Luno
Come back to me the the way you were
The way you were when we were young
I'm trying to tell you everything
I'm trying to tell you everything

I can heal the blind
I can cure the sick
I can say the right things
I can say the right things
Where d'you get so cruel
Where do you go
Cos you're never here

And your nose is bleeding

You deserve it
You've been lying to me

Overall Meaning

The song Luno by Bloc Party/Jesse F. Keeler/Sebastien Grainger is a powerful anthem about the pressures of society and the struggle to be oneself. The lyrics speak of a person who is tired of conforming to the expectations of their parents and society as a whole. They are tired of constantly jumping through hoops and shaving their legs to fit into an idealized image. The repeated refrain of "let it pass over you" suggests a sense of powerlessness and resignation to the pressures of society, while the line "you've been lying to me" suggests a sense of betrayal and deception.

The second half of the song shifts in tone, with the singer claiming to have the power to heal and cure, to say the right things. However, there is a sense of sadness and loneliness as the singer laments that the person they are addressing is never here, never present. The song ends with the powerful image of the singer telling this person that they deserve their nosebleed, suggesting that perhaps the singer has had enough of the lies and deception.

Overall, the song is a powerful statement about the struggle to be oneself in a society that often values conformity over individuality. It speaks of the pressure to fit into a certain mold, and the toll that pressure can take on a person's mental and physical health.

Britain had some great music coming out during the early 2000s: Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs and the Kooks. It’s reminiscent to the Britpop wave of the mid 90s consisting of Oasis, Blur, the Verve, and Pulp. What a time to be alive.

@torstenscholz6243

Add to that list Franz Ferdinand, Razorlight, The Libertines, Maximo Park, Blood Red Shoes, The Subways, Badly Drawn Boy, Snow Patrol and many more. The mid-2000s were indeed the last really great time for Britpop, Garage and Indie rock. A new wave of bands of that quality really should happen again, the sooner the better. This is real music and soooo much better than the soulless edm crap that dominates the charts nowadays.

@@torstenscholz6243 2010s has Royal Blood, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Nothing but thieves, Basement, Two Door Cinema Club, Kodaline and Foals. Not too many but a saving grace for the EDM crap. Hopefully that gets the wheels in motion for a revival.

@whygodrums10

About ten years ago I was heavy into Brit rock music. One band that NOBODY knows about that is absolutely out of this world is Colour. They are on Apple Music. Only one album from them called anthology but it is better than anything else from the UK
