Probably in my top 5 its so good, not even comparable to the original, i cant hear any resemblance. It does share a similar sound to Sunburst - Eyeball, different key though. Obviously this was made first.

Off topic here but one thing I loved about the classic trance tunes is the fact that many of them were lengthy...this really helped the progression of the song of feel of the buildup...it's supposed to be trance...a state of being mesmerized...now thee days most songs are alot shorter....first time I heard this mix...amazing track.

Production wise Matt had his own sound, very very strong presence from the equipment available at the time, he really knows how to create an atmosphere behind the beats, his lead melodies may not be like a Ferry Corsten for example but the whole package just delivers a solid experience. You have such a quality collection. I'm at the beginning of re building again. I was saying I'll only re buy the absolute cream of tracks but i fear for my wallet listening to your channel 😂😂

Wasn't very familiar with Matt Darey's work back then as i only recall seeing his name on one of the 1999(1998?) remixes which was a bit lackluster to me compared to the Gouryella and Dumonde remixes, but found this song during quarantine and instantly fell in love with it. Going down the rabbit hole i found lots of other songs that he worked on. Really good stuff!

A massive personal favourite for me, remember it being a rather large one at the time in the usual DJ's sets (especially Dave Pearce). I share your frustration at the official release's fade-out, due to the ridiculous singles chart eligibility rule of no more than 20 minutes per format which butchered so many releases for several years. Thank god for promos! 😊💪🏼🙌🏼

Mauro Picotto was one of my faves back in the day and was great on vinyl. He used Traktor that same Gatecrasher night I mentioned. It was a bit cringe seeing him lean over Solarstone whilst he was still playing taking an age to change all the setup etc, but I still loved his set tbh even if there was less skill involved.

Pre-recorded sets are a different story of course.
