Blonde Redhead has gradually increased in popularity in the underground music scene. Their early music has been described as emulative of Sonic Youth, but their more recent releases have begun to stray from this generalization. Kazu Makino is noted for her high, eerie voice, which hovers over melodic guitar riffs and rhythmic drum beats.
The large span of time between Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons and Misery is a Butterfly is attributed to Makino's recovery time after being trampled by a horse. Much of Misery Is A Butterfly's imagery and illustration is equestrian or reflective of the accident. In the liner notes, Makino thanks her doctors "and her friends who fed her and cheered her up when she couldn't do much on her own."
The band's 7th album is called "23" and was released in April 2007.
Their 8th album, "Penny Sparkle" was released in September 14, 2010.

Blonde Redhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just another young man
Running up the mountain
There are many like you
Mistaken, it's not meant to be this
It's not meant to be love
Crossing path and that is all
Turning me
And handle me
Come through me
And close to me
Turning me
And handle me
Come through me
And close to me
I wish we had one long night
Stain each other
We won't one another
But will you always remember?
Turning me
And handle me
Come through me
And close to me
Turning me
And handle me
Come through me
And close to me
The lyrics of the song "Oslo" by Blonde Redhead discuss a fleeting encounter that occurred between the singer and another person. At the beginning of the song, the singer expresses a sense of apathy towards the other person, referring to them as "just another young man running up the mountain." The idea of someone running up a mountain could represent a person who is focused entirely on their own goals and journey and may not notice or care about anyone else around them. However, the singer reveals that this encounter was more than just a passing moment as the two crossed paths, saying "turning me and handle me, come through me and close to me." There is a sense of desire and intimacy in the way the singer talks about the encounter even though they later clarify that it was not meant to be love.
The repeated refrain, "turning me and handle me, come through me and close to me" suggests a struggle with the attraction the singer feels towards this person. The use of the word "handle" implies a desire to be controlled or dominated, and the repeated phrase suggests that the singer is trying to understand their own emotions and how they relate to this encounter. The final lines of the song express a wish for more time or intimacy with this person, saying "I wish we had one long night, stain each other, we won't one another, but will you always remember?" The idea of staining each other could represent leaving a mark or memory on one another that would last beyond just a passing encounter.
