Blonde Redhead has gradually increased in popularity in the underground music scene. Their early music has been described as emulative of Sonic Youth, but their more recent releases have begun to stray from this generalization. Kazu Makino is noted for her high, eerie voice, which hovers over melodic guitar riffs and rhythmic drum beats.
The large span of time between Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons and Misery is a Butterfly is attributed to Makino's recovery time after being trampled by a horse. Much of Misery Is A Butterfly's imagery and illustration is equestrian or reflective of the accident. In the liner notes, Makino thanks her doctors "and her friends who fed her and cheered her up when she couldn't do much on her own."
The band's 7th album is called "23" and was released in April 2007.
Their 8th album, "Penny Sparkle" was released in September 14, 2010.

Silently
Blonde Redhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Quietly, I drop my weight into your sea, I drop my anchor
I sway in your waves, I sing in your sleep
I stay till I'm in your life
I realize now you're not to be blamed my love
You didn't choose your name my love
You never crossed the seven seas
You didn't choose your name my love
You never crossed the seven seas
Oh, sweet creature
I know exactly how you feel
Your clock is ticking, tick tack tick tack
Your heart is beating tum tum tum tum tum
Silently, I wish to sail into your port, I am your sailor
Quietly, I drop my weight into your sea, I drop my anchor
I realize now you're not to be blamed at all
You didn't choose your name my love
You die a little in my arm
I realize now you're not to be blamed at all
You didn't choose your name my love
We never crossed the seven seas
I realize now you die a little in my arm
Before you even taste my love
We never crossed the seven seas
I realize now you re not to be blamed at all
You didn't choose your name my love
You die a little in my arm
I realize now
that the song "Silently" by Blonde Redhead is a love song about the complexities of relationships and accepting the limitations that come with them. The lyrics use nautical imagery to convey the idea of someone sailing into another's life, dropping anchor and staying until they are fully immersed in their partner's world. The singer is aware of their own desire for intimacy and connection but is also aware of the challenges and limitations that come with relationships.
The chorus of the song is particularly poignant, as the singer acknowledges that their partner is not to be blamed for the circumstances that have led them to where they are. The line, "You didn't choose your name my love, you never crossed the seven seas," suggests that the partner's circumstances are beyond their control and that the singer accepts this. The second chorus expands on this theme, with the singer acknowledging that their partner "die a little in my arm" - this could be interpreted as meaning that their partner is limited by being with the singer, or perhaps it is a recognition that relationships are always imperfect and can cause pain and sacrifice.
The song also touches on the theme of time and mortality, with the line "Your clock is ticking, tick tack tick tack, your heart is beating tum tum tum tum tum" conveying a sense of urgency and the fleetingness of life. Overall, "Silently" is a poetic and introspective love song that highlights the complexities and challenges of relationships.
