The sense of taste
Delicious only on request
Say goodbye
Sayanora sugar
If you're so hot to go
Well hit the road
[Chorus]
Sweet and low
That's the way I like it
Baby I can't fight it
Make me feel delightful
Sweet and low
That's the way I like it
When you say my name
Baby I can't fight it
Make me feel delightful
I'll make you feel the same
Sweet and low sweet chariot
Baby won't you carry me
Baby won't you carry me home
Count me out
Scream and shout
Put me to the test
Sens eof risk
Synthentic only on request
Time to fly
Saynora sugar
If you're so hot to go
Then hit the road
Ciao-bello
[Chorus]
Sweet and low sweet chariot
Baby won't you carry me
Sweet and low sweet chariot
baby won't you carry me
Baby won't you carry me home
The lyrics of "Sweet and Low" by Blondie's Debbie Harry speak about someone who knows what they want and how they want it. The persona is assertive, confident and uncompromising, adding compliments and condiments only when they are requested. They are willing to walk away from others who are not on the same wavelength or those who do not meet their standards. The repetition of "Say goodbye,” "Count me out," and "Time to fly" emphasizes how the persona is quick to disengage from any situation that does not serve their interests.
This song highlights the importance of feeling good and taking control of one's life, particularly when it comes to relationships. The chorus repeats the phrase "Sweet and low" as it’s the way the persona likes it when it comes to intimacy. The song uses an analogy in the line "Sweet and low sweet chariot, Baby won't you carry me," to describe the persona's sensual yearnings. The line "I'll make you feel the same" indicates that the persona is also interested in their partner's pleasure. The song’s lyrics revolve around the idea of knowing your self-worth, understanding your desires, and not settling for less than what you feel you deserve.

Def Dumb and Blonde is the first album I bought - at the tender age of 12. Still love Blondie/Debbie Harry; she's iconic - an extraordinary talent, and extremely beautiful; perfect bone structure.

For me, Deborah Harry is one of those few women who when her face first appears on the screen, I'm momentarily stunned by her beauty.

At the risk of overshadowing her immense talent, this video has immortalized her otherworldly beauty and superior charisma.
Eat to the Beat, Parallel Lines, and Def Dumb & Blonde are my all time faves. I believe someone in the music biz actually put effort into stalling her solo career. The H she was known for probably didn't help, but by 1989 DD&B was as vibrant as ETTB in 1979.
I just can't understand why this release was treated so poorly.
It will remain one of my top 3 from this seminal act until I lose my hearing.

I was (and still am) obsessed with this song and video when it came out. I recorded it on VHS and watched it over and over 😍

Deborah Harry was one the original bad girls of the rock world and pave the way for many females. Thats all the younger generation needs to know having seen her at the tender age of 18 back in 1982 while on tour for the hunter. She happen to be in the right place that the right time and it paid off.

I am soo glad to be brought up with the styles of Duran Duran, Debbie Harry, Tears For Fears, Wham!, ABBA. I wish other generations my age would appreciate where the music of the 70's and 80's carved for us! We are truly lucky to have experienced great music! And Debbie YOU ROCK!!!

I'm gonna find this hard to believe that THIS BEAUTY is going to be fucking seventy!! Her grace still rings true to this day! Female performers, take notes, influence yourselves to this. Heh, like you're gonna listen to me anyway.

One of my favorite tracks from this album!
