Spinning Wheel
Blood_Sweat_&_Tears Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What goes up must come down
Spinnin' wheel got to go 'round
Talkin' 'bout your troubles it's a cryin' sin
Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel spin

You got no money and you got no home
Spinnin' wheel all alone
Talkin' 'bout your troubles and you, you never learn
Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel turn

Did you find the directing sign on the
Straight and narrow highway
Would you mind a reflecting sign
Just let it shine within your mind
And show you the colors that are real

Someone is waiting just for you
Spinnin' wheel, spinnin' true
Drop all your troubles by the riverside
Catch a painted pony on the spinning wheel ride

Someone is waiting just for you
Spinnin' wheel, spinnin' true

Drop all your troubles by the riverside
Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel fly

Overall Meaning

"Spinning Wheel" by Blood, Sweat & Tears is a song about the ups and downs of life. The lyrics suggest that life is like a spinning wheel, what goes up must come down, and the wheel will keep spinning. The song expresses the idea that we cannot control the twists and turns of life and that the best way to deal with it is to let go of our troubles.

The first verse starts with the idea that the spinning wheel has to keep going around. The second verse depicts a person who has no money and home and is alone, but the spinning wheel continues to spin. The third verse asks if you have found the sign on the straight and narrow highway and encourages reflecting on the positive things in life.

The chorus repeats the idea that someone is waiting for you and that you should drop all your troubles by the riverside and ride a painted pony on the spinning wheel ride. The song ends by repeating this message.

Overall, "Spinning Wheel" conveys a message about life's unpredictability, but encourages listeners to let go of their troubles and enjoy the ride.

I was 11 years old when this song came out. I'm 63 now, I survived colon cancer and Covid 19. When I will be gone, this song will still be carrying on and on and on. Great song, God knows how I miss the 60s and the 70s.

@ZeroGravity60

Congrats on beating colon cancer. I've been stage 4 cancer for just over 3-years but am feeling good for the most part. [I might beat it.] What would we do without YouTube, every hit from the past is at our fingertips. Peace brother.
